There are plenty of college coaches in attendance, and some of these kids in attendance have a real chance to turn some attention their way.
Luke Mills 2023 6’5 Reagan High School (SA ProSkills 17U Black)
Luke is a hard working wing prospect with the ability to affect the game on the interior, with his nonstop motor and willingness to fight on the glass. He has really improved a lot since the last school season, and again since I saw him in early May. He is much more confident with his handle and ability to attack downhill. He is already a confident scorer with his back to the basket, and is just beginning to tap into his effectiveness as a slashing prospect. Where he really makes his mark is his switch ability and willingness to defend all five positions. He is strong down low, allowing him to compete and bump with other strong forwards, but is athletic enough to move his feet and take away guards driving lanes. I would like to see him become more consistent with his shot off the catch, and continued development in the midrange and at the free throw line.
Camren Roper Camren Roper 6'1" | PG Byron P Steele | 2023 TX 2023 6’1 Steele High School (SA ProSkills 17U Black)
Camren is an athletic combo guard who has really developed since the last time I have seen him, especially with his consistency from beyond the arc. He is great at getting to his shot off the bounce in the mid-range, but really affects this game with his nonstop energy on both ends of the court. He seems to have grown a bit since the last time I saw him in action, with his long arms still affecting every aspect of the game. He is an aggressive defender who thrives on that end of the floor. He is great at playing the passing lanes and coming up with steals in transition. He is aggressive when guarding on the perimeter and really seems to man up in the paint and can protect the rim.
DaCannon Wickware DaCannon Wickware 6'6" | PF Dallas Kimball | 2023 State TX 2023 6’6 JF Kimball High School (Urban DFW Elite 17U)
DaCannon is an athletic specimen with his ability to explode vertically, be strong in the paint and also handle the ball. I was very impressed with how well he was able to attack out of the triple threat, using his size to bump defenders off their spot and also his quickness to get a shoulder around them. He was good at going up strong and playing through contact down low. In the half court, he does not overly dominate the ball, and calmly makes the right decisions on the perimeter. He never took a bad shot, or attacked when he should have made an extra pass. Wickware is an elite help defender, who was good at sliding over at the right time to affect the shot. I would like to see him work on staying vertically with more consistency, even if he just is just sticking his arms up.
Keith Richard Keith Richard 6'2" | PG South Oak Cliff | 2023 State TX 2023 6’2 South Oak Cliff High School (Urban DFW Elite 17U)
Keith is a lightning quick prospect who sees the floor at a high level, and is great at using his shiftiness to dominate the game on the offensive side of things. His ability to read the defense and make quick decisions allowed his teammates to get easy looks in the paint, as well as on the perimeter for himself. He is a true point guard as he operates the pick and roll, knifing through the defense and forcing a second defender to make a decision. He calmly and confidently got to his spots in the mid-range and the lane, getting to his floater with real consistency. He always put just the right amount of touch on the ball to get it above the help defender and softly into the basket. I was very impressed with his ability to score from the perimeter, calmly knocking down shots off the catch from beyond the arc, but more importantly confidently attacking his on ball defender. Defensively, he is aggressive and knows how to use his active hands to poke the ball free and run coast to coast. Richard has all of the athletic tools and awareness to play on or off the ball at the next level.
