Guards stole the show in Atlanta. Between high level floor generals, athletic lead guards, and ball handlers that impact on both ends of the floor, there was plenty of backcourt talent to choose from. This is part 1 of a two part series detailing 25 guards across each age group.

[player_tooltip player_id="1300734" first="Mason" last="Lewis"] | EG10

Lewis is a talented floor general that knows two things: setting up teammates and getting to the cup. He’s a pick and roll maestro and always has his head up, looking for open teammates. He has a tight handle and a variety of ways to finish among the trees.

Pablo Francis | Arnold Elite 2023

Francis is a tough, smaller guard. At only 5’8 he excels at getting in the paint, finishing against size, and drawing fouls. He has the vision to lead a team and the toughness to defend on the other end.

Ethan Sams | ENG United 2023

Sams brings a good deal of athleticism and competitiveness to the backcourt. He has a high activity level on both ends, scores off drives, and blocks shots.

JayQuan Nelson | ENG United 2023

Nelson is another athletic guard in ENG United’s 17u backcourt. He scores it in transition and can hit deep pull up jumpers. Nelson was dialed in for a 31 point game where he dropped six threes and got to the rim at will.

KJ Davenport | Beast Elite 2023

Davenport is a three level scorer with next-level size, quickness, and athleticism. He scored by getting downhill, knocking down threes off the catch, and using floaters after beating closeouts. He reads pick and roll situations with confidence to pull up beyond the arc if a defender goes under. The 6’4 guard handles contact well.

Robert Jones | Texas Takeover 2025

One of the smaller players on the court Jones was one of the biggest reasons his team won by 19 points. He was a defensive terror with the speed to create turnovers in the passing lane. Offensively, he’s a blur in transition and has a crafty layup package in the halfcourt. His willingness to defend reminds me of 2023 guard Jacovey Campbell at the same age.

D’Ron McZeal | G4WYW 2025

McZeal’s two-way presence is led by his shooting and defense. He’s a good off-movement shooter that knocked down four threes. The 2025 guard plays with an edge and gets into your body on defense. He operates the pick and roll well for a young guard.

[player_tooltip player_id="1275303" first="Jordan" last="Matthews"] | G4WYW 2025

Matthews has great isolation scoring instincts with the handle to expose shaky defenders. Any time he got the ball on the left wing, he could attack angles for looks at the rim opening opportunities to display his layup package. He showed off the jumper with a corner three and a pull up jumper at the left elbow.

Tyler Bell | Arkansas Athletes 2025

Bell showed he could score in any way his team needed. He hit a midrange jumper after curling a screen, hit a pull up jumper from distance, and scored at the rim after getting past his defender. He has good size for the position and finishes through contact.

Zaylin Rowland | Bryson Warren United 2025

A knack for downhill scoring and consistent three point shooting made Rowland a 15U standout. He’s hard to stop on baseline drives and scores through contact in the paint. He handles pressure well and draws fouls.

Joseph Bell | Bryson Warren United 2025

Bell is a 6’5 combo guard with long arms and a lot of upside. The 2025 prospect knocked down a pair of threes, moved the ball to the tune of three assists, and score in transition. He uses his physical tools to make defensive plays. You can watch Bell step into a larger role with North Little Rock High School.

Malakai Ayres-Olson | Canada Elite 2024

Ayres-Olson is a two-way contributor with the chops to play lead guard. He has several ways to score in the paint and keeps the defense honest with his three point shooting. His frame allows him to contain his man and pick his pocket.

[player_tooltip player_id="992516" first="Isaiah" last="West"] | No Excuses Elite 2024

West is one of his team’s most consistent performers. The physical 6’3 guard can hit shots from all levels and finish against contact. He uses his size and ability to get downhill to make plays for others.

Chance Davis | Oklahoma Impact 2024

Davis already has a game winning state championship shot under his belt. The things that helped him win a ring were on display in Atlanta. He’s quick out of his moves and can finish around the cup with both hands. He led his team to a 4-0 weekend with late-game heroics sprinkled throughout.
