July 2nd-3rd I attended the Brawl for the Ball Prep Hoops Circuit located at Inspire Courts in Gilbert, AZ. This is one of the last stops before the Hustle Region Finals on the July 15th-17th weekend in Seal Beach/CA.
I focused on 16U but watched some 17U as well.
Here were some 17U guard standouts that I viewed:
Albuquerque Prep/NM (AZ Unity 16 EYBL) (Pictured)
The best guard I saw on 17U was Wilson. He has good court vision and can rattle off shots. He made every big play down the stretch of a multiple heated match-ups. He scores on catches or pull-ups and drives in traffic. He will make many plays throwing dimes and he made one impressive pro hop to the basket that caught the attention of many.
Millennium/AZ (AZ Unity 16 EYBL)
Another top end guard but two classes younger was Holmes. He passes the ball well, shoots it with range, defends multiple positions and showed toughness last weekend. He got knocked down pretty hard and still played. He hit a few step back deep triples and when he gives a ball fake, he goes right by.
Dalton Runyon PG 6’2 2023 Rancho Bernardo/CA (D1 Southern California 2023)
A pure PG who makes shots and will defend. He has the three and mid off the catch or pull. He is stronger then he looks and is feisty on the ball defensively. He is almost too unselfish to a fault and always seems to make the correct read even if he gives up his own shot for a better shot.
Regis Jesuit/CO (Colorado Premier 2023)
A tough point guard who is a bowling ball downhill scorer. He is strong as an ox and gets to the basket using his thick build and stocky frame. He seeks the contract and will score through it. He has a nice floater game and is shooting it better from a year ago from mid to the three.
Paradise Honors/AZ (AZ Firestorm)
A scoring lead guard is getting taller and his skill pops off the page. He creates his own shot off the dribble and off the catch. He advance passes and will drive and kick. He is improving his body control finishing at the rim. One of the steadier performers in recent months.
Yuma/CO (Shine Elite 2023 National)
A tough scoring guard is a three level scorer. He can get downhill using his thicker base and he scores it through contact. He is a true sharp shooter from the arc and he can create his own offense with a nice handle. He will rebound at a good clip and score on put backs.
Soren Ammerman PG 5’11 2023 Fredrick/CO (Shine Elite 2023 National)
A pure point guard with a high feel for the game. He constantly moves without the ball with sharp cuts to the basket and he can shoot it. He hit five triples with shockingly five charges showing his toughness.
