Continue ReadingWith the departure of Juan Diego Catholic and Layton christian the small schools can take a sigh of relief as they will now be someone else’s problem. This opens things up drastically as there is parity across the classification and the summer has been a strong proving ground for that. 3A is wide open but we like what we see from these schools early in the summer.
5. Judge Memorial Catholic ||
Like what we saw from this young group. Not only do they play with some grit and speed, they also play with a chip on their shoulders. They have some dynamic guards and will add another one shortly. Mauricio Lemus Mauricio Lemus 6'2" | PG Kearns | 2024 State UT will join the team after sitting out a year due to transfer and he will fit in fine and add more of a scoring punch that will also add balance to their attack. Anywan Kuang Anywan Kuang 6'5" | SF Kearns | 2024 State UT and Ayden Saucedo are super tough and they could be a team that can take it all the way due to the type of talent they have coming back and some other pieces they might be able to add.
4. American Leadership Academy ||
Pleasantly surprised with the level of play that ALA has been playing. they do not look like your typical charter School. They have some height and they have some tough guards. If Russell Gibson Russell Gibson 6'2" | CG Eagle | 2024 State ID comes back he will be one of the leading scorers in the class. 6’9 Mason Farr has come a long way and you can see some strides that he has taken this summer. He could be a major piece in the success of the small school divisions because there isn’t a lot of height out there.
3. Canyon View High School ||
Not nearly a sleeper but could be a formidable force as Canyon View has shown shown growth going down to 3A. LittlePG Andrew Barnes Andrew Barnes 5'9" | PG Canyon View | 2023 State UT could be a 20 PPG type of player coming back. 6’6 Cooper Malcom could tae a big jump from last year and be a double double threat every night.
2. Morgan High School ||
Morgan only looses one player from last years team and they have some nice pieces, especially when it comes to some positional size. Alex Fisher is a knockdown shooter that should increase his scoring production. Look for him to hit 50+ threes. Josh Criddle is a super tough hard-nose type that will mix it up and clean up the glass. Morgan plays a brand of ball that can teams trouble as they can really play any style.
1. Grantsville High School ||
With 8 players coming back that have a lot of experience this Grantsville team has a shot. they have been playing well this summer and they play hard and the right way. Look for G Gabe Mouritsen to have himself a nice productive year. He does well from the outside be he does not settle for jumpers, he likes to attack. Jace Sandberg and Connor Sorensen Connor Sorensen 6'0" | CG Grantsville | 2023 State UT are two more names that have the potential to really pick up the slack.
