Is there a new guy worth pinning hopes to?
Saturday many varsity teams competed at Knoxville Webb High School. Which teams impressed? Any players enhance their reputation?

Coalfield vs. McMinn Central
McMinn Central (13-17 last year) does not have to replace many, but they must replace much! Darius Carden was a wonderful senior for the Chargers.
McMinn Central is pretty small in size. Their team last year dressed many young guards, most almost never played. Well, they are a year older and perhaps more seasoned.
Saturday, facing Coalfield, the Chargers played an impressive 1-3-1 zone. McCain Baker McCain Baker 5'9" | PG McMinn Central | 2023 State TN is a grimy, hyper-invested guard, though a little undersized. Playing beyond high school will require a heroic senior year. Two Chargers are 6-foot-3 with nice height: Raymond McCarty Raymond McCarty 6'3" | SF McMinn Central (football) | 2025 State TN (’25), Gabe Masingale Gabe Masingale 6'3" | SG McMinn Central | 2024 State TN (’24).
Coalfield played a lot of 2-3 zone. They have heavy feet on the perimeter, up and down their roster. The dudes are built like Midwestern farmers, strong, thick, a little slow.
Will Cooper Will Cooper 5'10" | PG McMinn Central | 2024 State TN (McMinn Central) showed off some skill, a bit of outside shooting.
Raymond McCarty Raymond McCarty 6'3" | SF McMinn Central (football) | 2025 State TN was very raw, but clearly the best upside talent in the game. How high? Unclear. His quickness at a good guard height is a wonderful starting point. The handle is a little loose and the shooting is wildly inconsistent in both form and results.
Zach Armstrong (Coalfield) is a nimble 6-foot-5 forward. He is not very powerful and do not expect him to batter his way to the rim. He is more of a ‘finesse four.’

Jellico vs. Webb JV
Carter Terry (Jellico) was exposed after a switch out high. He was quickly revealed to be a high school center, not wing. Look for him to be a post defender on this unit. Jellico lost a couple of extremely productive seniors to graduation and now you will see a lot of touches and production coming from Isaac Mcnealy Isaac Mcnealy 6'4" | SG Jellico | 2024 State TN (2024). The tall off-guard looks like a player really adapting to his body. His speed is very good with and without the basketball. He is agile mid-air and comfortable as a shooter from almost any location. He will need to add some good weight eventually, but the foundation for a high-volume scorer is there today. Teammate Carson Bolton looks to be an impact player this season. Competing against the Webb “B” Team, Carson was disruptive defensively. He moved his feet pretty well for a strong-bodied guard. Bolton hit an outside shot or two. The handle is something that will really open up his options, if he tackles that in the interim. Overall, this is a team making the forced shift from veterans to youth, and it looks to be an exciting transition full of potential.
