PG Breakdown
Micah Thompson Micah Thompson 6'6" | SF Perham | 2023 State MN (2023) 6’5 Perham
He plays AAU ball with West Central United. Micah attended the MBCA D1 Showcase last weekend in MN. You know this kid is legit if he gets invited to an event like that! Thompson is a veteran guard that helped lead his Yellowjackets to the illustrious Minnesota State Tournament. It will be great to see how Thompson looks against Kraft, Dvorak, and Enget. Thompson’s length will give other perimeter players a problem and I am interested to see how he moves his feet on D. Micah has great court vision, fundamentals, and ball skills. I want to see how he looks shooting the triple. There is no doubt that Thompson will be dangerous in the pick-n-roll game and in dribble hand-offs. I hope to see him in some of those actions.
Zach Kraft Zach Kraft 6'2" | PG Grand Forks Red River | 2023 State ND (2023) 6’2 Grand Forks Red River
He plays AAU ball with ECI. I watched Kraft at the Metro Tournament last Friday and Zach played great. He has stretched out to 6’2 now and those added extra inches allow him to shoot over smaller defenders. Kraft is a pure shooter. He is lights out from beyond the arc and his pull-up looks better every time I watch him. Zach creates well for others and he is a smooth passer. He is also an improved defender. I want to see Kraft go at Dvorak. This will be the EDC vs. WDA matchup! Both are studs and they have All-State talent. They will both have their sights set on the State Tournament in school ball. Will Kraft be the best shooting PG at the combine? As a defender, can he keep the ballhandler in front? These are a couple of questions that will be answered tomorrow. Kraft’s stats from the HS season: 45 FG%, 35 3FG%, 74 FT%, 2.68 rpg, 2.3 apg, 1.4 spg, 15.6 ppg. Zach was an All-EDC player.
Alex Dvorak Alex Dvorak 6'1" | PG Dickinson | 2023 State ND (2023) 6’1 Dickinson
He plays AAU ball with the Pentagon Schoolers. Dvorak has had a nice start to the AAU season as a playmaker and as a potent offensive threat. Alex is quick, fast, and bouncy. He can really get up and dunk with authority. I want to see him tomorrow when they are testing verticals. He can throw down impressive slams! I want to see Dvorak go at Thompson from Perham. I am interested to see if his length bothers Dvorak. Can he score over the 6’5 length? I would also like to see Dvorak in the pick-n-roll game and how he creates for others. How will he defend? Will he be the most dynamic PG at the combine? Alex can certainly create his own shot, can he move without the ball and still score? After tomorrow we will find out. Dvorak’s stats from the HS season: 24.5 ppg, 4 rpg, 2.5 apg, 2 spg. Alex was an All-WDA player and All-State player.
Tyson Enget Tyson Enget 5'11" | PG Powers Lake-Burke Central | 2023 State ND (2023) 5’11 Powers Lake
Tyson put up crazy numbers in his junior season and his team only took one loss. He is a winner, as he helped get his team to State the year before as a soph. This last season, Enget’s numbers looked like this: 25 ppg, 8.9 rpg, 4.9 apg, 5 spg, 49 FG%, 27 3FG%, and he was a 1st Team All-State player. He is not playing AAU, so I want to see how he looks in the uptempo style of play and how Enget handles top-notch athletes. In high school ball, he is exceptionally productive on the glass. Can he still board up against all this top talent? Can he score the rock as he does in high school ball? This will be my first time watching Enget live. Powers Lake is over 5 hours away, so this might be your only chance to watch him as well. Enget has the potential to be a Mr. Basketball nominee this next spring. Let’s see what all the hype is about!
Bode Hoeg Bode Hoeg 6'2" | PG Fargo North | 2024 ND (2024) 6’2 PG Fargo North
He plays AAU ball with ECI. He is a coach’s kid and you can tell that by the way he plays. Hoeg is very skilled with an excellent feel and understanding of the game. Hoeg has sprouted up in the last year and has added a couple of inches. You have to love when a young guard gets a nice growth spurt. In my opinion, Hoeg is the point guard of the future for the Spartans. I am just not sure if that will be this year or next. I would like to see him go up against Kraft and see how he compares against a top EDC guard. When I have watched, Hoeg is a leader and a great communicator. Will he still be that type of player at an event like this? How does he shoot it from beyond the arc? Check back in the coming days to find out.
Carson Haerer Carson Haerer 6'0" | PG Bottineau | 2024 State ND (2024) 5’11 Bottineau
He plays AAU ball with ND Attack. In my opinion, Haerer is one of the top shooters in North Dakota, regardless of class. Can he prove it tomorrow? Carson is ultra-skilled with a picture-perfect jump shot. He shoots it great off the dribble and the catch. His shooting range extends well beyond college depth. I want to see Carson go up against Enget, another top guard in Class B. Can Carson defend against some of the top athletes? Can he take care of the ball against aggressive pressure? Is he just a shooter, or does he score at all levels? Only time will tell. In high school ball, Carson was an All-Region player. Check out his impressive stats: 23 ppg, 6 rpg, 4.1 apg, 3.5 spg, game-highs of 42 points, and 6 three-pointers!
Carson Eggert Carson Eggert 6'4" | PG Valley City | 2024 State ND (2024) 5’11 Valley City
He plays AAU ball with ECI. Eggert has good quickness and he has the tools to be a sold point guard. He is aggressive off the bounce and Carson’s perimeter jumper has potential. Eggert will have a chance to play serious minutes on varsity this coming season. Tomorrow will give him a chance to show if he is ready for the big leagues. I am interested to see how he looks on defense against some of the top guards. I will be looking to compare him to Haerer and Hoeg who are in the same class (2024). Haerer is an experienced varsity player, how will Eggert measure up to him? Can Carson hit the 3-ball consistently? How is his strength, physically can he match up with the soon-to-be seniors? Tune in tomorrow if you want to find out.
Aric Winczewski Aric Winczewski 6'2" | CG Minot | 2025 State ND (2025) 6’0 Minot
He is playing AUU ball with ECI. Aric is the son of legendary coach Dean Winczewski, so it comes as no surprise that Aric has a very high hoops IQ. He is also super tough, disciplined, and skilled. Minot players are known for being tough defenders. I want to see the young Winczewski go head to head with Kraft and Dvorak. Can he stay with the veteran guards? I know Aric will do a nice job of sharing the rock and creating for others. I am interested to see how he looks shooting from the perimeter. This kid is a winner, there is no doubt about that. He took home a State Championship this spring. After tomorrow we will have a good idea of how Winczewski stacks up against some of the top PG’s in North Dakota.
Owen Chervestad Owen Chervestad 6'0" | PG Red Lake County | 2025 State MN (2025) 6’0 Red Lake County Central
He plays A ball in Minnesota, so it will be fun to see him go against some of the top PG’s from ND. Winczewski is a great PG from ND in the 2025 class, I hope to see these two go head to head and see who looks the best. Owen can stroke it from the outside and he continues to improve his overall game. Chervestad plays well in transition and he has multiple moves that help him put the defender in the dog house. Owen played with ECI in the past, I am not sure if or who he is playing with this spring/summer.
