Continue ReadingThe June high school live periods kicked off this past weekend with tons of events getting underway all over the country, and one of the biggest ones was in the DMV area where DMV Live took place at the famous DeMatha High School in Maryland. The event featured some of the top private schools from Maryland and Virginia, and had hundreds of college coaches in attendance. We’ll have tons of content from the weekend, continuing with part two of the 2023 standouts from the VA schools.
Patrick O’Brien Patrick O’Brien 6'8" | C Bishop O'Connell | 2023 State VA | 6’9” PF | Bishop O’Connell
O’Brien had a good year at Highland School and will be at O’Connell this year on a young, talented group where he’ll be looked at to provide production as the senior leader. He’s really improved over the past few years, as he looks much more comfortable on the perimeter in his ability to catch and shoot, put it on the deck and attack the rim and finish. He’s an athletic finisher above the rim, he makes shots from multiple levels and he’s a good rebounder as well.
Isaiah Shaw Isaiah Shaw 6'5" | PF Bishop O'Connell | 2023 State VA | 6’6” PF | Bishop O’Connell
Shaw is a player that should have a breakout season in the WCAC this year, as the 6’6” forward has a good frame and is a good athlete and does all the dirty work for his team. He’s an inside presence that plays bigger than he is as he rebounds and blocks shots against bigger players, he runs the floor hard and can finish around the rim and he is comfortable out to 18 feet as well. He’s the type of glue guy you want in a big man and he still has a lot of room to get better moving forward.
CJ Johnson CJ Johnson 6'1" | SG Episcopal | 2023 State VA | 6’2” WG | Episcopal
Johnson had a very good showing for Episcopal as they had a good weekend, and his production showed a lot of improvement since last year. The 6’2” wing played with great confidence, shooting the ball well from deep, attacking the basket hard off the bounce and doing all of the little stuff to help his team win. He’s an excellent glue guy who can score efficiently from multiple levels, rebounds and defends well and doesn’t make many mistakes when he’s on the floor.
Connor Dubsky Connor Dubsky 6'4" | SG Sunrise Christian Academy | 2023 State NLG | 6’4” WG | St. Stephen’s St. Agnes
Dubsky was arguably the biggest stock riser from session one, and he won’t be at session two as he announced the day after the event that he will be transferring to Putnam Science in Connecticut for his final season. He showed the whole package as a scorer as he knocked down shots from deep off the move, he got to spots off the bounce and created space to make shots in the midrange area and he showed good athleticism as a finisher and got the line often for easy points. He picked up a number of offers from schools at all division one levels, and he’s going to be a welcome addition in the NEPSAC next year.
Khalil Williams Khalil Williams 6'5" | SG Potomac (McLean, VA) | 2023 State VA | 6’4” SF | Potomac School
Williams is a very intriguing prospect for this Potomac School squad as the 6’4” wing is a talented scorer who can fill it up in bunches. He has good size on the wing with a quick first step, he can knock down shots from deep and he is a good ball handler who can get to spots and make shots in the midrange and around the rim. He put up big numbers in multiple games and will be interesting to watch going into session 2.
