The event featured some of the top private schools from Maryland and Virginia, and had hundreds of college coaches in attendance. We’ll have tons of content from the weekend, starting with part one of the 2023 standouts from the MD schools.
Amani Hansberry Amani Hansberry 6'7" | C Mount St. Joseph | 2023 State #52 Nation MD | 6’7” PF | Mt. St. Joe’s
Hansberry was fantastic all weekend long for MSJ, as the versatile big man continues to show improvement in his game and was very productive in a number of different ways. He’s evolved into a Draymond Green type of role as he may be a little undersized but he has an inside-out game, he can rebound and start the break where he can make plays for others and he can do a little bit of everything on offensive end. He was a walking double-double all weekend, played above the rim and showed he’s a two way impact guy that makes his team better in a number of ways.
Ace Valentine Ace Valentine 6'2" | PG Mount St. Joseph | 2023 State MD | 6’3” CG | Mt. St. Joe’s
Valentine was another MSJ player who had a good weekend, and he should start to see more and more schools come in as he’s a very good defender who is starting to become more and more consistent on the offensive end too. He’s a good athlete who is quick off the bounce and has good speed in transition, he made some tough shots on the offensive end both in the midrange and from deep and he showed the ability to make plays for others as well. He really thrives on the defensive end as he moves his feet well and has quick hands, challenges shots and is good in help as well.
Corey Chesley Corey Chesley 6'5" | SF Good Counsel | 2023 State MD | 6’4” WF | Good Counsel
Chesley “had coaches buzzing” in the words of fellow Prep Hoops contributor Houston Wilson, as the 6’4” wing has a lot of tools that translate to the next level relatively easily. He has good size on the wing with a strong frame and is an explosive athlete, he plays above the rim catching lobs and getting downhill and he can knock down shots from deep off the catch. He’s a well-rounded wing who has shown a lot of improvement and he has improved a lot over the past few years.
Marcus Banks Marcus Banks 6'1" | PG Riverdale Baptist | 2023 State MD | 6’2” WG | Riverdale Baptist
Riverdale is not the biggest team or have a singular star on their team but they’re a well-rounded group who knows how to play together and win games, and Banks is the senior leader on that group who played really well this weekend. The 6’2” guard is strong and athletic and gets after it on both ends of the floor, he gets downhill and finishes well around the rim and he’s unselfish and makes others on his team better too. He sets the tone for this group and his energy and athleticism allow him to make plays on both ends of the floor.
Jeremiah Quigley Jeremiah Quigley 5'9" | PG Bishop McNamara | 2023 State MD | 6’0” PG | Bishop McNamara
Quigley is part of a very deep and talented backcourt at McNamara and has evolved from one of the more underrated guards in the DMV to one of the best over the past few years. He’s a true floor general who sets the tone on both ends of the floor, he controls the tempo and gets his team into sets and he’s very good at creating off the bounce and in isolation situations. He’s an efficient scorer from multiple levels off the bounce and he plays with good change of pace and speeds to allow him to get in the lane at will.
Jaden Johnson Jaden Johnson 6'0" | PG Bishop McNamara | 2023 State MD | 6’2” CG | Bishop McNamara
Johnson is another very good rising senior on this McNamara team who put on a show last year in DMV Live but has dealt with injuries over the last year, but this year he showed that’s all behind him and he’s back to his old ways. He’s an absolute bully at the combo position as he gets downhill and is able to finish consistently through traffic, he can create space off the bounce and knock down shots from the midrange well and he brings it defensively with is strength and ability to move his feet. He’s a high energy guy who comes at you over and over again and is relentless in his pursuit of the basket.
Zane Adnan Zane Adnan 6'3" | CG Bullis | 2023 State MD | 6’3” PG | Bullis
Adnan is the floor general and senior leader of a young and talented Bullis team, and he led them to a very successful showing at DMV Live 1 and turned some heads as well. He’s a highly skilled and cerebral guard who handles pressure and gets his team into sets, he’s excellent in pick-and-rolls where he can hit shots when defenders go under and he makes great reads out of it and he sees the game a couple of plays ahead of others. He has a good frame and makes shots from multiple levels when he needs to, but it’s the way he sets the tone on both ends and leads by example that makes him an impressive point guard.
