Although the cancellation of the Alabama Association of Basketball Coaches top 100 camp isn’t the result any basketball fan wanted, The Prep Hoops community wanted to celebrate these talented hoopers and continue showing talent around the state. So, here is the first installment of the top 100 countdown- A daily series to keep you abreast of the upcoming hoopers that are making an impact!

(NOTE: These rankings are NOT in order and are based on the list provided on the Alabama Coaches Association site. For rankings, please refer to our 2023 and 2024 board)

Kiah Key Kiah Key 5'9" | PG Hartselle | 2023 State AL 6’2 SG/PG2023 Hartselle

Key is a versatile combo guard whose one of the more well-rounded prospects in the state. He shows excellent range on his jumper and can stretch the defense far beyond the three-point line. Displays excellent movement off the ball with timely cuts, relocation to space, and can run off screens and knock down shots as a movement shooter. This, in addition to his ability to attack closeouts, finish at the rim, and create for others as a secondary ball-handler, makes him an ideal combo guard in any offense. On the defensive end, Key can guard multiple positions and disrupt passing lanes. Lastly, Key is a solid rebounder who contributes both on the offensive and defensive boards.

KJ Anderson KJ Anderson 5'9" | PG Deshler | 2023 AL 6’0 SG/PG Deshler 2023

Anderson is a dynamic shot creator who plays with a three or key mentality and can score with the best of them. With a solid 200-pound frame, Anderson is a powerful guard who powers through contact and bumps defenders off when driving to the basket. Though he has excellent strength, Anderson is extremely shifty with his handle and is nimble on his feet. Incorporates in and outs, crossovers, stepbacks, and spin moves to keep defenders off balance/ on their heels. With a solid bag, Anderson is a certified and pound-for-pound one of the top scorers in the state.

Kolton Acklin 6’2 SG/ PG 2023 New Hope

Acklin is a combo guard with a broad skill set. He shows extreme quickness and burst when playing in the transition- making him a threat to be a one-man fast break. Acklin is very skilled when playing at the basket and can finish with both hands effectively, make floaters with range, and navigate the lane with euro steps. He can be an efficient stationary shooter in the half-court, knock down shots off the catch, and use that to open up his drive game. On the defensive end, Acklin is highly active as a disruptor and help-side defender. He has great timing when jumping passing lanes and can get an occasional block from the weakside when rotating to help at the rim.

Kyle Layton Kyle Layton Kyle Layton 6'0" | PG Mountain Brook | 2023 State AL (2023)–Mountain Brook

Layton is an elite 3&D guard in the state that contributes at a high level on both ends of the court. He shows a solid competitive drive when taking on the best opposing player and uses his quick feet, hands, and reaction time to make life difficult for ball handlers and scorers. On the offensive end, Laton is a top-tier floor spacer that can shoot with the best of them. Can operate as a play initiator with solid decision making and playmaking or an off-ball shooter that can space the floor and attack closeouts.

Landon Morrow 6’7 C/PF 2023 Marion County

Morrow is a mobile center that can be a paint beast on both sides of the court. As a defender, Morrow’s athleticism enables him to block shots, disrupt scorers at the rim, and discourage drives as an elite rim protector. He’s also instinctual as a rebounder and always seems to find a way to gain extra possessions. As an offensive player, Morrow will shoot a high percentage due to shot selection, strength, and ability to finish at the rim. He can also rim run and play in transition at a top-tier level.
