Top Slashers from the 2024 Class at the PH Easter Classic

<p>Check out my scouting reports and analysis on some of the best 2024 slashers who really shined during their time on the court during the second day at the PrepHoops Easter Classic.</p> <div class="article-content"> <p><strong>DeMichael Chew </strong><span style="text-decoration: underline;">2024 6’3 Peabody Magnet High School, LA (Cenla Storm 2024)</span></p> <p>DeMichael is a massive point guard who uses his size to dominate from all three levels of the floor, his height at this age allows him to routinely score over the top of his defenders by simply rising up for a jumper. He is great at finishing in the lane and using his burly frame to create space through his aggression and constant energy in the paint. He is a high level scorer who showed an ability to calmly knock down shots off the catch within the corners and the wings. I would like to see him work on his ability to hit his pull up jumper, and adding a quick one to two dribble pull up out of the triple threat or after a shot fake in the corner. </p> </div> <div class="section related-posts-widget mb-4"> <p><strong>Judah Pe<span class="cQp1Ab">ña </span></strong><span style="text-decoration: underline;"><span class="cQp1Ab">2024 6’5 iSchool of Lewisville, TX (ESBY 2024)</span></span></p> <p>Judah is an aggressive player who has the ability to score with ease off the bounce. He is great at scoring off the dribble from all three levels of the floor. He possesses great athleticism which allows him to rise up and hammer home emphatic dunks on the fast break. Judah has all the tools to become an effective weapon at the next level with his frame and ability to create space with his handle while also getting to the rack. I loved watching him compete on both ends of the court, his aggressiveness bleeds through to both ends of the court which allows him to wreak havoc on the perimeter. I would like to see him work on staying aggressive and be more willing to use his size to be weapon on the glass while also protecting the rim. </p> <p><strong>Elijah Guidry </strong><span style="text-decoration: underline;">2024 6’0 MacArthur High School, TX (North Houston Bandits 2023)</span></p> <p>Elijah is a crafty and elusive combo guard who thrives at creating space and shaking his defenders. I saw one of the most intense matchups of the entire tournament with plenty of smack talk from coaches, parents and the players from both teams. Guidry was willing to go back and forth against some other highly skilled guards who attacked him on the defensive end of the court. He calmly went back at them and shifted their momentum with quick crossovers and his sneaky ability to find space. He has all the characteristics of a fighter and a dog on the court, and I cannot wait to watch him develop into a high level guard at the next level. This is one guard I can not wait to see in person again. </p> <p><strong><a class="pn-player-link" href="https://prephoops.com/player/jordan-mathews-2/"> <span class="name-pointer">[player_tooltip player_id="1105593" first="Jordan" last="Mathews"]</span> </a></strong><a class="pn-player-link" href="https://prephoops.com/player/jordan-mathews-2/"><span class="name-pointer"> </span></a><span style="text-decoration: underline;">2024 6’5 Peabody Magnet High School, LA (Cenla Storm 2024)</span></p> <p>Jordan is an a strong defender who can use his foot speed which he uses well to wreak havoc on both ends of the court. He is great at staying vertical and timing up his blocks to protect the rim for his team. He has all the tools to be an explosive forward at the next level with his nice blend of athleticism off the dribble and his ability to consistently dominate in the paint. He has a reliable jumper from the perimeter, which he uses to his full advantage to knock down shots off the catch and off the bounce. His consistency from the outside allows the paint to be even more wide open from the pressure that he can put on the defense from the outside. I was very impressed by his ability to truly do it all on both ends of the court. Matthews has all the tools to become a valuable weapon at the next level. </p> <p><strong>Brandon Beard</strong> <span style="text-decoration: underline;">2024 6’4 Allen High School, TX (Victory Academy 2024 Blue)</span></p> <p>Brandon is the ideal power forward through his ability to dominate on the glass with his size and strength to clear the boards and also his ability to defend on the perimeter. I was impressed by his foot speed and ability to defend guards and wings on the perimeter. Guards thought they had an advantage by bringing him out of the paint, and Beard took full advantage of that and used his quick feet and tenacity to harass ball handlers. He looks like he is going to continue to grow in strength and height, especially as he continues to work in the weight room. I would like to see him work on his ability to handle the ball on the perimeter, and his ability to get into the teeth of the defense with a live dribble. </p> </div>
