We discussed guards in part one and two and top overall stock risers as well. In this article we’ll be focusing on the wings that have made big strides recently. Those articles and this one are filled with scholarship talent!
Christian Harmon Christian Harmon 6'5" | PF Buchtel | 2023 OH , 6’5 PF Buchtel 2023: Harmon had a HUGE game at Flyin To The Hoop, as he seemingly couldn’t miss a shot all game. When Harmon is knocking down the long ball, he’s an intriguing prospect with his size and bigger frame from the wing forward position. Harmon also worked well off of Buchtel’s guards, making smart cuts to the paint. Harmon has played spot minutes for The Family this spring, one of the top grassroots teams in the nation. I think Division II schools should be looking at Harmon as a potential stretch-4 at the next level.
Braylon Wenger Braylon Wenger 6'6" | SF Dalton | 2023 State OH , 6’6 SF Dalton 2023: Wenger has had a steady climb since the first time I watched him about 12 months ago, showing off his skills at the OHSBCA showcase last June and having a good high school season for Dalton. Wenger is a bit taller than his little brother and shoots is better from the outside. Braylon doesn’t have the quick twitch athleticism that Jalen has, but their uniqueness made them such a dominant duo in Division IV last high school season. I really like the pace that Wenger plays at and his shooting ability at 6’6 is a huge plus. Wenger is one of a couple prospects on All Ohio Select that scholarship programs should be taking a look at. I’d expect lots of Division II schools to be watching that team during July.
Luke Kuhlman Luke Kuhlman 6'4" | SF Dublin Jerome | 2023 State OH , 6’5 SF Dublin Jerome 2023: Kuhlman seems to always be moving in the rankings whenever we update. He made his debut in the 40’s range last summer and dropped to the 70’s in the winter, now he’s back up at 52 after tearing it up at the Bill Hensley Run N Slam last weekend. Kuhlman is a deadeye shooter at 6’5 and when he gets hot, Kuhlman is tough to stop on the offensive end. A 26 point game against EYBL program Meanstreets certainly caught the eyes of the college coaches at that game and Kuhlman continued his stellar play the rest of the weekend. It’s good to see Kuhlman boost his stock again in front of college coaches, leading to a rise up the rankings once again and scholarship interest at the same time.
Brandon Rose Brandon Rose 6'4" | SF Gilmour | 2023 State OH , 6’4 SF Gilmour 2023: Rose took a huge step as a Junior for Gilmour, leading them to the state championship game. Rose took clear steps as a ball-handler and became more able to use his athletic talents in the half-court to create for himself. Rose has developed his game from a transition run and jump wing to a prospect capable of making an impact in the half-court setting by spacing the floor with his outside shooting or attacking a closeout. Rose is a much more well-rounded player from his Sophomore season and could continue to rise up the rankings with a big summer. Scholarship programs should be looking for Rose to add athleticism on the wing with some offensive upside.
Dylan Hohler Dylan Hohler 6'4" | SF Huron | 2023 State OH , 6’4 SF Huron 2023: Hohler is a two-sport stud for Huron, also excelling on the football field. I’ve noticed a lot of the best small school athletes in NW Ohio play multiple sports and it honestly makes me like their competitiveness on the basketball court even more. Hohler is a solid athlete from the wing position with a broader frame than the previously mentioned Rose. Hohler is a play-maker on the defensive end of the court, blocking shots and jumping passing lanes. If Hohler can develop a more reliable outside shot, he’s a scholarship talent in my eyes. Time will tell if he’s able to add that aspect to his game. Hohler plays on an Ohio Buckets-Miller squad that is flooded with small college talent. I’d recommend any Division II, III and NAIA program in the region to watch them if they are attending an event they are playing in. You could go to the game expecting to scout one player on the team and leave loving another prospect by the end of the game. Seven players for that team are ranked between 72 and 143 in the state, and they share the ball exceptionally well.
