Who were some of the 2023 Top Performers we saw while we were in the building? Upward Stars SE 3SSB Southeast 17U (5-0) defeated the Carolina Bad Boyz (4-1) 85-62 in the championship game.
Johnell Sindab Johnell Sindab 6'1" | SG Mullins | 2023 State SC – Upward Stars SE 3SSB Select – Mullins HS
Johnell came up big time after time today in the shorthanded win. Sindab was able to score the ball from all 3 levels on the floor on his way to scoring 15 points in the win. Johnell is best suited playing out on the perimeter and knocking down shots when given the opportunity.
Jon David Gardner Jon David Gardner 6'2" | CG Heathwood Hall | 2023 State SC – Upward Stars SE 3SSB Select – Heathwood Hall (pictured on front)
Gardner came to play in a game vs NLPB SC in which the Upward Stars SE 3SSB Select squad had just 5 players. Jon showed a nice pull-up jumper and solid fundamentals with his play today. He really plays the game within his reach and never forces any shots and passes.
Deuce Hudson Deuce Hudson 5'11" | PG West Florence | 2023 State SC – Carolina Bad Boyz – West Florence HS
Deuce is up to it again like he has been all basketball season and grassroots season. Hudson just delivers results as a 3-sport athlete for the Warriors. Deuce scores the ball from all over the floor when it comes to shooting it on the perimeter, attacking in transition or leaking out and creating steals. Hudson is constantly all over the ball just like the rest of his teammates.
Bryson Graves Bryson Graves 6'1" | SG West Florence | 2023 State SC – Carolina Bad Boyz – West Florence HS
Graves is a standout baseball and basketball player for the Knights. Graves might not be playing much more on the Grassroots Circuit come later this summer according to Carolina Bad Boyz Head Coach Rodney Lesane Rodney Lesane 6'1" | PF South Florence | 2024 SC Sr. Graves is extremely athletic and really excels in the transition game. Lesane informed Prep Hoops Graves will look to play football this coming fall for the Knights as a wide receiver.
Jevon Brown Jevon Brown 6'0" | SG Wilson | 2023 State SC – Upward Stars SE 3SSB Pee Dee Regional – Wilson HS (Florence)
Brown is a SHOOTER and it seems not many people know about him outside the Pee Dee. Jevon is a very efficient and productive shooter from behind the arc. Brown a undersized guard has a very quick shot release and has no problems getting it off from anywhere on the floor. Brown picked up a offer from Shaw University (NC) (NCAA D2) earlier this spring.
Terry Leonard Terry Leonard 6'1" | CG Dorman | 2023 State SC – Upward Stars Upstate – Dorman HS
Leonard is a combo guard who can really get to the basket by slashing. Terry is quick in the open floor and explodes around the corner to the basket. He has the ability to finish above the rim at times.
Jordan Miller Jordan Miller 6'1" | PG Dorman | 2023 State SC – Upward Stars Upstate – Dorman HS
Jordan really knows how to direct a game from out top with his play. Miller plays the game under control and is a pass first point guard. Jordan is crafty to get the ball into the paint or penetrate – kick to an open teammate out on the wing.
Jamarcus Wilkins Jamarcus Wilkins 6'7" | PF Dorman | 2023 State SC – Upward Stars Upstate – Dorman HS
Wilkins continues to keep getting better with his play. Jamarcus is playing more assertive and aggressive on the offensive end of the floor. He has always had the defensive skills when it comes to altering and challenging shots down in the paint. Wilkins is a long and rangy athlete. Leonard, Miller and Wilkins are a very strong trio to lead the Cavaliers this coming season.
Khalil Arnold Khalil Arnold 6'2" | CG Legacy Early College | 2023 State SC – Upward Stars SE 3SSB Southeast 17U – Legacy Early College
Arnold came out on fire in a game vs Upward Stars SE 3SSB Pee Dee Regional knocking down 7 three pointers. Khalil is getting more confident with his stroke from downtown and he shows a great desire to score the ball. Khalil plays the game to the fullest at all times with his hustle – look for his recruitment to pick up.
Collin Murray-Boyles Collin Murray-Boyles 6'7" | PF AC Flora | 2023 #209 Nation UT – Upward Stars SE 3SSB Southeast 17U – Wasatch Academy (UT)
Collin has really start to fill out his frame and will make a move to Utah next school year. Collin helped A.C. Flora get to the Class 4A State Championship Game this past season. Murray-Boyles a left-handed post player has a good skill set to play face-up to cup and really shows great passing skills at times.
