Continue ReadingThere is a short little lull here in the grassroots basketball scene with not nearly as many tournaments taking place this coming weekend. The following weekend, which is Memorial Day weekend, things will heat back up featuring Nike EYBL Session III in Louisville, Kentucky. Prep Hoops Indiana will have boots on the ground for that event. With a little bit of down time this seemed like the perfect opportunity to highlight some of the top teams that our staff has seen this spring so far. These power rankings will feature the top five 17u programs in the state of Indiana RIGHT NOW. These will be updated every few weeks moving forward. 1. George Hill All Indy
No shoe circuit, no problem. George Hill All Indy has beaten some of the best teams on each circuit and has shown they just might be the most talented team in the state of Indiana. 6’11” forward Xavier Booker Xavier Booker 6'11" | PF Cathedral | 2023 State #4 Nation IN (Cathedral H.S. 2023) has become one of the most sought after prospects in the country this spring. Meanwhile, 6’5″ wing Garwey Dual Garwey Dual 6'5" | PG Carmel | 2023 #113 Nation CA-S (Carmel H.S. 2023) has blown up his recruitment as much as any prospect in the country. In the backcourt, underrated guards Keyon Garrett-Miller Keyon Garrett-Miller 6'1" | PG Southport | 2023 State IN (Southport H.S. 2023) and Sheridan Sharp Sheridan Sharp 6'2" | PG Ben Davis | 2023 State IN (Ben Davis H.S. 2023) have been excellent.
2. Indiana Elite
High school teammates Logan Imes Logan Imes 6'4" | PG Zionsville | 2023 State #202 Nation IN (Zionsville H.S. 2023) and Nick Richart Nick Richart 6'9" | PF Zionsville | 2023 State IN (Zionsville H.S. 2023) are among the leaders of this Indiana Elite team that has competed at a high level on the Adidas 3SSB Circuit. JaQualon Roberts JaQualon Roberts 6'8" | PF Bloomington North | 2023 State IN (Bloomington H.S. North 2023) has solidified himself as a top prospect in the class while Jaron Tibbs Jaron Tibbs 6'4" | SF Cathedral | 2023 State IN (Cathedral H.S. 2023) and Jake Davis Jake Davis 6'6" | SF Cathedral | 2023 State IN (Cathedral H.S. 2023) continue to be some of the best role players you’ll find anywhere. Balanced team with a lot of firepower.
3. Indy Heat
When playing at full strength, Indy Heat has more talent than any team in the state. However, some roster rotation over the spring has kept all of their best players from playing at the same time very often. They lost a close one to Indiana Elite at the Run N Slam. Jeremy Fears Jeremy Fears 6'1" | PG La Lumiere | 2023 GA (La Lumiere 2023) continues to be one of the most explosive guards in the country while the addition of Kaleb Glenn Kaleb Glenn 6'7" | SF La Lumiere | 2023 #64 Nation IN (La Lumiere 2023) and Dra Gibbs-Lawhorn (Montverde Academy) make up one of the best backcourts in all of AAU. This team put together a 4-0 weekend in Indy during Nike EYBL Session II.
4. Team GRIII Elite
This has been one of the most consistent teams this spring and is clearly one of the most talented on the Prep Hoops Circuit. Team GRIII picked up Mason Jones Mason Jones 6'7" | PF Valparaiso | 2023 State IN (Valparaiso H.S. 2023) early in the spring to add to a talented group on the wing next to A.J. Lux A.J. Lux 6'3" | SG Crown Point | 2023 State IN (Crown Point H.S. 2023) and Cooper Farrall Cooper Farrall 6'5" | SF Culver Academy | 2023 State IN (Culver Academy 2023). A couple of the state’s top unsigned seniors in Cayden Vasko Cayden Vasko 6'5" | PG Bosco Institute | 2022 State IN (Bosco Institute 2022) and Landen Babusiak Landen Babusiak 6'11" | C Bosco Institute/Indiana Connections Academy | 2022 State IN (Bosco Institute 2022) also run with Team GRIII. The consistent X-Factor that should see his recruitment continue to take off is 6’5″ wing/forward Brandon Trilli Brandon Trilli 6'5" | SF Munster | 2023 State IN (Munster H.S. 2023).
5. Kyle Guy Elite Black
One of the most fun parts of watching this team play is that you can tell they’ve spent a lot of time together. Previously under the Grassroots Indiana umbrella, this group came over to Kyle Guy Elite and is loaded with talent. In the backcourt, prospects like Dylan Moles Dylan Moles 6'3" | PG Greenfield-Central | 2023 State IN (Greenfield Central H.S. 2023), Isaac Higgs Isaac Higgs 6'2" | PG Evansville Reitz | 2023 State IN (Evansville Reitz H.S. 2023), and Spencer White Spencer White 6'5" | SF Carmel | 2023 State IN (Carmel H.S. 2023) both have college offers and continue to generate more interest. Landon Biegel Landon Biegel 6'4" | SF Oak Hill | 2023 State IN (Oak Hill H.S. 2023) provides a bunch of shooting on the wing and versatile forwards Preston Roberts Preston Roberts 6'5" | SF Noblesville | 2023 State IN (Noblesville H.S. 2023), Jesse Faires Jesse Faires 6'6" | PF Ben Davis | 2023 State IN (Ben Davis H.S. 2023) and Gavin Welch Gavin Welch 6'6" | SF New Castle | 2023 State IN (New Castle H.S. 2023) have had strong springs. The big man in the middle is 6’10” Jacob Cherry Jacob Cherry 6'9" | C Eastern-Pekin | 2023 State IN (Eastern Pekin H.S. 2023) who has a ton of upside.
