Check out my scouting reports and analysis on some of the top combo guard prospects in attendance at the PrepHoops Space City Collision! These guys are sure to see an uptick in recruiting and garner even more attention as the summer continues to roll on!
Luis Perez 2023 6’1 Hanks High School, TX (EP Starz 2023)
Luis is a high level combo guard who has the ability to fill it up at any given moment. In one game that I watched, he hit four threes in a row all off the catch. I was blown away by how quickly he gets ready to catch and shoot, from the corners and the wing positions on the floor. He has an incredibly quick trigger and is unafraid to take any shot on the floor. I was very impressed with the confidence in which he operated in the corners, he knew when to quickly get a shot up or put the ball on the floor and attack the basket. In another game, he confidently displayed an ability to get to his spots with a live dribble, and played off of another skilled wing who loved to attack the basket and get downhill.
Randy Bennett Jr 2023 6’2 Braswell High School, TX (DC Kings Denton 2023)
Randy is an athletic slasher who thrives at getting into the paint, but also scores at will off the bounce from the midrange and beyond the arc. Where he makes is mark is floating towards the rim with his impressive athleticism. I was not surprised to find out he is a high level football player as well, using his athleticism and aggressiveness to get wherever he wants on the court is usually a pretty strong indicator of a football background! He has a non stop motor which allows him to relentlessly attack the basket. With the amount of success he had in the paint, the defense began to sag off of him to cut off driving lanes to the rim, which he calmly took and scored at a high clip in the midrange and beyond the arc.
TJ Ford Jr 2023 5’10 Ridge Point High School, TX (TJ Ford Basketball 2023)
TJ was dominant for every second he was on the floor, showing off his blazing end to end speed and the natural ability he has to finish in the lane. It does not matter what kind of defense is being thrown at him, he always gets by his first defender and forces the defense to react once he gets into the second level of the court. He has explosive leaping ability which allows him to hang in the air and finish around defender’s outstretched arms. He has the ability to contort his body to get away from contact while also adjusting his shot angle to avoid defenders. He made every finish in the book look routine with the ease in which he scores the basketball. He threw down one of the best dunks I have seen in some time from the point guard position (See Below). He is a creative scorer off the bounce who knows just the right time to get his shot off as soon as he shifts them in the slightest. He has the ability to pass his teammates open and always seems to have his head up to make the right read. Time after time he found streaking teammates on the break and put pin point passes over the top of his opponents. Each pass he makes has the right amount of juice or touch depending on the situation. On the defensive side of the ball, it is clear he has lived on the court with the way he baits opponents into lazy passes that allow him to go coast to coast. He is an elite player playing the passing lanes and came up with numerous steals.

2023 6’1 Lake Ridge High School, TX (3P Elite 2023)
Josiah is a high level combo guard who has the ability to find any space within the full court and use his agility and athleticism to get through tight spots on the floor. He has an incredibly consistent handle which he uses to shift his opponent. Every dribble has a purpose with Jackson, he is an elite combo guard who is one of the shiftiest players in attendance. I loved how he uses his long arms to finish around defenders in the paint, or wreak havoc on the defensive end. He moves his feet well to stay in front of his opponents and has active hands to tip passes in and play in the passing lanes. In the half court, he found his teammates for wide open looks after beating his man off the bounce and forcing a second defender to step up.
Eldric Barnes 2023 6’3 Aldine High School, TX (H-Town Gliders 2023)
Eldric is a high level player who is great at getting into the the paint with a live dribble. He is an incredibly aware facilitator who always seems to have his head up to make the right play within the half court or in transition. I loved his ability to create opportunities for his teammates, every time he drew a second defender he calmly made the right play whether it was a dump off to his big or a kick out pass to a shooter on the back side of the play. I was very impressed with his ability to pass his teammates open and create looks. At times he was a bit too pass happy, and made an extra pass when he should have just went up strong in the paint. I would like to see him work on his intensity and his willingness to attack the basket.
