This winter on the hardwood in Western Pennsylvania an extremely exciting season that created many memories took place. There were a great number of quality players from all four classes (seniors down to freshmen) that shined on the court while showcasing their abilities on a nightly basis. With college coaches and scouts in attendance during numerous games this season, the WPIAL players/teams sure did not disappoint with high-level performances across the board from Class 6A down to Class A. When the school year comes to a close in June we will not be surprised with the high quantity of student-athletes who will continue their basketball careers at the collegiate level. That is why we logged a tremendous amount of hours creating the All-Section Teams to make sure none of these young men were slighted for strong performances so the deserving players were recognized for their hard work during the long basketball season. Finally, after reaching out to a variety of coaches, we decided on a high-quality group of players deserving of these accolades. CLASS 4A – SECTION 1
FIRST TEAM:
Ben Tomer, 6’6 senior, power forward, Class of 2022, North Catholic High School
- A strong, physical post player that owns the glass on both the offensive and defensive ends of the court
Brandon Coury, 6’1 senior, shooting guard, Class of 2022, Burrell High School
- A talented knockdown shooter from a variety of perimeter open spots for this graduating senior
Ryan Lang Ryan Lang 6'2" | CG Knoch | 2022 State PA , 6’1 senior, combo guard, Class of 2022, Knoch High School
- His range from the three-point line is a strength of this young man in the half-court set and during the transition
Owen Minford, 6’1 senior, wing forward, Class of 2022, Keystone Oaks High School
- He has the work ethic and dedication to making himself better each game to provide for his team
Andrew Maddalon Andrew Maddalon 6'2" | SG North Catholic | 2023 State PA , 6’1 junior, shooting guard, Class of 2023, North Catholic High School
- An above-average shooter who can make baskets in a multitude of ways
Vinnie Clark, 5’10 senior, combo guard, Class of 2022, Freeport High School
- A quick, shifty ball handler and passer, plus he enjoys “locking up” his opponent’s top player
Armend Karpuzi Armend Karpuzi 6'3" | SF Deer Lakes | 2022 State PA , 6’3 senior, wing forward, Class of 2022, Deer Lakes High School
- His ability has improved with hard work and he looks to “take over” for all four quarters
SECOND TEAM:
Max Rottman Max Rottman 6'0" | SG North Catholic | 2023 State PA , 6’1 junior, shooting guard, Class of 2023, North Catholic High School
- A proven leader for his team while continuing to play a vital role them all season long
Tyson Webb, 5’10 point guard, Class of 2022, Derry High School
- This young baller is lightning quick and can run the floor with the best of them
Ben Lane Ben Lane 6'3" | SF Freeport | 2023 State PA , 5’11 point guard, Class of 2023, Freeport High School
- His precision passing makes him a definite problem for the opponents
Donavan Callahan, 6’2 wing forward, Class of 2023, Burrell High School
- A long, lanky player that rebounds well on both ends of the floor and can score in bunches
Billy Schaeffer Billy Schaeffer 6'2" | SG Deer Lakes | 2024 State PA , 6’1 shooting guard, Class of 2024, Deer Lakes High School
- A deadly three-point shooter with the ability to keep working on his all-around
Max Hurray Max Hurray 6'2" | SG North Catholic | 2024 State PA , 6’1 wing forward, Class of 2024, North Catholic High School
- He has a sound basketball IQ which makes him a true leader on the floor
Justin Brannagan, 6’0 wing forward, Class of 2022, Deer Lakes High School
- He has the “clutch gene” that has started to separate himself from some of the others who show arrogance
Christian Dietrich, 6’4 power forward, Class 2024, Deer Lakes High School
- A tall, solid power forward that crashes the glass and owns the paint on defense
