Keeping the coverage today more from my region in Kansas and Missouri and looking at some of the new names stepping up that caught my eyes through the games this weekend.
Bryant Wiltse, 5’11 G, KC Spurs 2024: A tough guard who stays shot ready and has a great platform when he shoots the ball. In a great game with GRIII Wiltse hit some huge threes and helped come up with key stops in the closing moments to help his team secure the win. A strong and compact guard that is a nice piece playing off the ball and spacing the floor, the Mill Valley guard will be someone to watch moving forward in the class of 2024 in KS.
Howard Peoples III, 6’4 W, KC Spurs 2024: Much like a lot of his teammates on this squad, Peoples is a long, athletic, and rangy wing who has a ton of upside. He really imposed himself in the Spurs press and high pressure defense flying around, getting deflections, blocking shots, and getting out on the break. He is a solid creator in the open court and cuts well in the half court. Can make offensive plays at the rim as well.
Blake Kilian Blake Kilian 6'6" | SF Blue Valley West | 2024 State KS , 6’5 F, KC Spurs 2024 Silver (Pictured): Lean but long forward who still manages to get in great positing on the floor on offense and defense to be effective. Had himself a great weekend which included a 13 point, 8 rebound, and 2 block performance which showcased a ton of his ability. Hard working kid that is only going to get better and with his length, Kilian is a solid prospect moving forward. He has already caught out Kansas scouts attention, but this weekend helped raise that stock.
Jordan Mason, 5’11 G, KC Spurs 2024 Silver: Mason came out of this weekend proving his strengths from behind the three point line. Gotta find him in transition and can’t overhelp off of him. The Kansas guard’s best game this weekend was a 16 point, 3 rebound, 3 assists effort that saw him going perfect from behind the 3 point line. Has some game off the bounce as well.
Logan Burnett, 6’ G, SSA Elite 2024 Black: A real combo guard that showed his ability to both be a lead guard and an off ball guard this weekend. Read’s defenses well as he comes off screens and hand offs both as a ball handler or moving without the ball. Has some sneaky good handle going side to side to create separation and has a lethal pull up jumper in the mid range. Plays with solid poise and presence on the floor and never really seems rattled.
Trent Johnson Trent Johnson 6'0" | PG De Soto | 2023 KS , 5’11 PG, SSA Elite 2023 White: Point guard that really pushes the tempo with a strong and steady handle that gets by guys and into the teeth of the defense. Sees up the floor well for kick ahead passes and navigates transition effectively. Made some big shots this weekend both from behind the arc, and getting by guys to the painted area. On a team loaded with PG talent, Johnson also showed that he can move off the ball as well.
Abraham Hilbert, 6’5 F, SSA Elite 2024 White: Showing that he has improved greatly over the high school season, the big forward has increased his mobility, efficiency around the painted area, patience with the ball, and rebounding prowess. Had a solid weekend playing on a hurt ankle but was still effective and able to be a solid inside presence.
