Just take into account some of the recent prospects that have come out of the region. Josh Minott (Saint Andrew’s) recently declared for the NBA Draft. Trent Frazier (Wellington) just finished his career with the University of Illinois.
You got plenty of players here who can play big-time basketball. Let’s look at a few that I believe have bright futures.
Brooklyn Vick – Saint Andrew’s
I think 2024 Brooklyn Vick started to develop this season for the Scots. The 6-foot guard averaged 14 points, 3.2 assists, 3.2, 2.1 steals per game while shooting 41 percent from the floor. Moreover, Vick went 19-of-60 (32 percent) from three and 66-of-92 (72 percent) from the free-throw line. Vick shot 45 percent or better from the field in nine games. He’s got long arms and enough athleticism to be a factor on offense. Vick should stay aggressive and continue his momentum into the summer. Cutting down on turnovers should be a point of emphasis. However, Vick is a prospect with a good shot at a promising career. He is also at a great program under John O’Connell.
Matthew James Matthew James 6'7" | SF Atlantic Christian | 2023 FL – Jupiter Christian
2023 Mathew James has some size around the frontcourt to be a factor. The 6-foot-8 forward averaged 10.7 points, 8.3 rebounds and 1.2 blocks per game while shooting 57 percent from the floor. Furthermore, he shot 60 percent or better from the field in eleven games. James had 14 points and ten boards while shooting 6-of-8 from the field against Martin County (27-4). He recorded seven double-doubles overall. James has an efficient game that should continue into his senior season.
Davids Yonko – Olympic Heights
2023 David Yonko showed some promise for Olympic Heights. The 6-foot-3 guard scored in double-figures in five games and shot at least sixty seven percent from the field in those contests. Yonko also went an impressive 33-of-72 (46 percent) from deep. He hit six 3-pointers for 18 points against Spanish River. He was a Honorable Mention pick by the Sun Sentinel.
Shawn Cineus – Wellington
2023 Shawn Cineus is a prospect with fairly good size at the forward spot. The 6-foot-5 Cineus averaged 10.1 points and 6.6 rebounds per game while shooting 51 percent from the floor. He also went 12-of 35 (34 percent) from deep. Against Palm Beach Central (21-5), Cineus scored a season-high 21 points while shooting 8-of-10 from the field. Overall, he scored in double-figures in 16 contests. Cineus also grabbed 10 or more boards in six games. With 2022 Terell Edwards (7.9 rpg) graduating, he could be a prospect to watch this summer and into the fall.
Reggie Reinhardt – Wellington
2024 Reggie Reinhardt had a good season for the Wolverines. The 6-foot-1 shooting guard averaged 10.4 points and 3.7 rebounds per game while shooting 43 percent from the field. Reinhardt also shot 36-of-107 (34 percent) from deep. Against Lake Worth (21-4), Reinhardt posted a season-high 19 points while shooting 7-of-11 from the field. Overall, he scored in double-figures in 16 contests. Reinhardt also had five or more boards in nine games. As of today, Reinhardt would be the lead returning scorer after the graduation of 2022 Brenden Williams.
