More so, the talent around Fort Lauderdale is incredible.
Let’s look at some players that have risen their stock and should have a big summer.
Gustavo Guimaraes – Westminster Academy
I’ve seen a lot of run on Gustavo Guimaraes working out at the beach and in the gym. The 6-foot-10 forward/center is becoming more athletic while packing on some muscle. You’re already looking at a kid who could be a prominent rim protector with his current size and length. Now, Guimaraes should take the next step in his offensive production. I think you can bank on his shooting efficiency around the paint, especially if he puts on some pounds to bang with post defenders. Then you have to factor if Guimaraes develops a consistent shot away from the cylinder. That could make him a very tough player to defend. Also imagine a 6-foot-10 kid effectively running the floor in transition. I think his durability on the court will really start to show.
Reece Randolph Reece Randolph 5'9" | PG Chaminade Madonna | 2024 FL – Chaminade-Madonna
I think Reece Randolph Reece Randolph 5'9" | PG Chaminade Madonna | 2024 FL is one of the more athletic guards in the area. The 5-foot-9 Randolph is extremely quick and nimble when driving to the basket. Furthermore, he can stop-and-go on a dime and finish at the bucket. I think his overall base in this area of the game is very strong. Randolph could be tough to defend the more he shoots from 15 feet out. Then you’ll have to play the shot as well as his move off the dribble. Again, if he grows, Randolph will only become more difficult to stop.
Tyheim Williams Tyheim Williams 6'2" | CG Mater Lakes | 2023 FL – McArthur
2023 Tyheim Williams Tyheim Williams 6'2" | CG Mater Lakes | 2023 FL can be a tank around the paint. The 6-foot-4 forward averaged 8.4 points and 4.6 rebounds per game this past season. Overall, Williams posted ten double-figure outings and two double-doubles. I would say working on his finish near the rim and implementing a stretch shot away from the basket could help him develop. As of now, I think he has enough power to score around the cylinder and score off putbacks while being a solid rebounder.
Allen Omana – Northeast
2023 Allen Omana could be an underrated prospect in the area. The 6-foot-3 guard averaged 17.2 points, 4.4 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game while shooting 38 percent from the floor. In addition, he went 50-of-121 (41 percent) from deep. Omana hit three or more 3-pointers in ten games. Against state champion Stranahan, Omana scored 26 points on 9-of-14 shooting from the floor. He also scored 22 points in an earlier game against the Mighty Dragons. Therefore, Omana has had some good games against quality competition. Working on his overall shooting percentage could help him grow.
Tahir Bond Tahir Bond 6'3" | CG Coral Glades | 2024 State FL – Fort Lauderdale
Tahir Bond Tahir Bond 6'3" | CG Coral Glades | 2024 State FL has the size and athleticism to be a quality shooting guard. The 6-foot-3 Bond averaged 9.4 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.4 steals per game while shooting 44 percent from the floor. I think Bond can get to the bucket fairly often using his quickness and agility. A spot he could work on is his 3-point shooting. I don’t see a ton of attempts from Bond beyond the arc. He had 58 steals on defense so he’s already an active player on that side of the court. I think Bond has a lot of potential moving forward.
