One of the early spring showcase events before the live viewing period begins. Prep Hoops NorCal was in the gym. Here’s our take on some of the top players on this team.
Will Heimbrodt Will Heimbrodt 6'7" | PF Archie Williams (Sir Francis Drake) | 2022 State CA-N 6’7 2022 G/F/W of Archie Williams HS
He’s a long square shouldered player with a long wingspan to get out and close out on shooters. He brings some versatility to the court and an improving skill set to play on the perimeter. He handles the ball in the open court and on the perimeter. He did well creating for himself. He has a few moves he can use to get his shot off, including a dribble drive spin, and finish with the left. He has a nice mid-range jumper off the dribble, he can hit the 3. His length inside produced a few buckets. He’s goes straight up with hands up to challenge in the paint. He’ll help with rebounding.
Salim Arikat Salim Arikat 6'7" | SF Petaluma | 2022 State CA 6’8 2022 F/PF of Petaluma HS
Arikat a long lefty with a good outside shot from behind the 3-point line. His long strides will get him to the rim off one dribble from the perimeter. He plays well from the high post area having some success handling and attacking the defender going to his left, and finishing. He showed us he can score inside with a jump hook and a paint jumper that’s high and hard to block. He has a wide stance playing defense on the perimeter taking away passing lanes, and making it harder to feed the post.
Donovan Saiyad Donovan Saiyad 5'10" | PG Vallejo | 2023 State CA-N 5’10 2023 PG of Vallejo HS
A pass first point guard shows patience, he does a good job of spacing, setting, and running the offense in half court sets. He’s a quality ball handler with a good first step to get by defenders and into the paint for the kick out pass, dump offs to a big, or use his floater, and paint jumper. He has good lateral movement and can stay tight on the ball handler.
Devin Carson Devin Carson 6'3" | SG Deer Valley | 2022 State CA-N 6’2 G/CG 2022 of Deer Valley HS
A good ball handling guard. He likes to play fast and get into the open court. He has several crafty moves to freeze big defenders in the paint to get his shot off. A spin move, the inside hand, plus he can finish with either hand. He’s a capable guard that can run point. He’ll pull up for transition 3’s in rhythm.
Gavin Hamil 6’3 G/F 2023 of Vacaville
Hamil is kind of a glue guy. He didn’t score a lot of point while we were watching. He did work hard on both ends to have impact. He’s an alert defender that stays in good help position. At 6’3 he can guard multiple positions at this level, on the wings and in the post area. He’ll run the lanes in transition. He has a solid body to handle the contact, and will finish with hard drives when he goes to the basket.
