The lanky 6-foot-4, 175-pound wing had turned some heads playing club ball in the summer and big things were expected out of him with the Bowmen. Unfortunately, various injuries delayed the start of his year but once he got going Sucher was able to live up to the hype – one that he hopes carries into this AAU off-season.
“It was a rough comeback – I was out multiple times and I probably missed about half the season,” Sucher said. “But it was fun coming back, getting into the flow of things. It was tough being out but it was great once I got back. I felt like the flow of my game and handling the ball got better and my shot was pretty good this season.”
This past season, Sucher was able to get into 15 games and average 16.3 points and 4.5 rebounds while shooting 39 percent from three-point range. During the action he played, he showed off his smooth stroke from the perimeter but also the ability to drive and make contested shots in traffic.
“I had a pretty good season but there’s a lot to improve on,” Sucher said. “I definitely need to be stronger with the ball, playing more of a guard position because next year I’m probably going to need to handle the ball a little more with Owen (Caudle) not there.”
Sucher is hoping playing high-level AAU basketball will help with that – he’s running with Team Fly – as well as give him exposure to college coaches. At this point, his goals in terms of recruitment are fairly simple.
“I want to show coaches my athleticism and being able to score on all three levels,” Sucher said. “That’s whether it’s getting all the way to the hoop, mid-range, or threes – everything.”
“Obviously my goal is to play D-I but really any college opportunity is cool,” Sucher noted. “I’m pretty open to anything but West Coast would definitely be preferred.”
Sucher currently ranks as the #11 player in the PrepHoops Oregon Class of 2023 rankings.
