I was stationed at Drive 5 so my coverage will be centered around those that played there during the #PrepHoopsLive that I was able to see.
Here are 5 guards that stood out from Saturday’s games:
Carter York, 6’1 Guard, M14 Hoops 2025 National: Is a big time shot maker from behind the arc, in an overtime thriller made some huge clutch shots to get his team to come from behind to get it to OT and then came up clutch in overtime. Really knows how to get open on the wing without the ball, find the spot up areas for kick outs, and comes off ball screens or dribbles down in transition ready to fire.
Deken Jones, 6’ Guard, Oklahoma Runners Organization 2024: Was one of the players with the most combined intangibles and talent on the floor I saw all weekend. Has an incredible motor on the floor, possessed great leadership skills, showcased a top tier basketball IQ on floor, and made a ton of the small plays that win games. Jones is also super talented with a wide ranging game which includes an array of tough finishes at the rim, strength to finish against contact, court vision, and is a confident and smooth shooter of the basketball.
Fitzgerald Grant, 6’2 Guard, Arena Basketball Club 2024: Has great physical attributes on the perimeter, good size, strength, and physicality on both ends. Can fill it up in bunches, was tough to stay in front of for defenders. Once he got into the painted area his ability to finish off two feet, rise up for little jumpers, or spring up quick and get to the glass was really impressive. Really good defender as well on the wing. He was terrific on Saturday.
Ryan Runaas Ryan Runaas 6'0" | PG Lemont | 2024 State IL , 5’10 PG, ET21 2024 (Pictured): Really smooth player overall that plays with poise. Made some really tough plays to keep his squad in an absolute battle on Saturday morning including knocking down a huge top of the key 3 late. Can get down hill and make plays for himself and for others on kick outs. Really like his game as a shot maker and then countering tough close outs with attacking the basket or making the right read to hit an open teammate. Good transition player as well.
Nasir Chatman, 6’2 Guard, Bama Celtics 2025: Is an athletic two way guard who had a big Saturday but weekend overall. He is impressive to watch in transition as he explodes down the court as a wing runner or pushing the ball himself. He gets up and out on the break, can make plays above rim, and has momentum and game breaking ability with his athletic ability and finishing prowess. He is a big time rebounder and defends the ball at a top tier level.
