Continue ReadingThere is no doubt that that the national pandemic of the last two years as well as Covid 5th year college players and the chaotic transfer portal have had a negative impact on recruitment for the Class of 2022.
So here at Prephoops.com we thought we would give some much-needed love to a few unsigned Class of 2022 prospects who impressed at last weekend’s Hoop Group Spring Jam Fest. For many ‘22s this Spring Jam Fest was their last opportunity to play in front of a large gathering of college coaches.
Below is a review of several unsigned 2022s from the region who played at a high-level during the 2022 HG Spring Jam Fest.
Hadir Boswell Hadir Boswell 6'4" | SF Mathc, Civics & Sciences | 2022 State PA – 6’4” / Math, Civics & Sciences / Team Final 2022 / Wing: Boswell is a traditional power forward who provides a physical presence in the paint and beast on the glass. He excels with his back to the basket, by both scoring through contact and passing out of double teams. Boswell also displayed a decent touch in the mid-range.
Elijah Gregory – 6’4” / Smyrna (DE) / We R1 Select / Wing: Gregory has a reputation as a highflyer who thrives in transition because he plays above the rim. That remains true, but last weekend he proved he can also score in the half-court via his jumper. Plus, Gregory did a decent job of slashing to the tin for catch and lay-ins.
Will Ghohestani – 6’0” / Central / Ghost Elite / Combo Guard: Opposing defenses need to pick up Ghohestani as he crosses half court because this elite shooter has extensive range. In addition to shooting threes at an elite level, Ghohestani is a solid ball handler who keeps his head up and sees the entire court. He also possesses a non-stop motor and will not hesitate to dive on the floor for a loose ball.
Denzel Figueroa Denzel Figueroa 6'5" | SF Engineering & Sciences | 2022 PA – 6’6” / Carver – Engineering & Sciences / Philly Pride Select / Wing: Figueroa was a walking double-double during the 2021-22 high school season. Last weekend he continued to score the rock at all 3 levels and was a tremendous rebounder at both ends. His most underrated asset is his off-ball movement. How this wing prospect remains unsigned is a mystery.
Carlos Lopez – 6’4” / Egg Harbor Twp (NJ) / Philly Pride Select / Shooting Guard: After the 2021-22 season Lopez was selected as an All-South Jersey Team member. Once we watched him at the HG Spring Jam Fest, it is easy to see why. This lefty is an excellent transition scorer who can finish through contact. In the half-court Lopez can use the dribble to get to his mid-range jumper or all the way to the rim. His quickness and length make Lopez a plus defender.
