Here’s a look at some unranked 3A and 4A all-state picks:
Matthew Lierz, 6-foot-1 guard, 2023, Holton – 4A 2nd team, Sports in Kansas
Lierz brought the toughness of a football running quarterback to the court this winter. He has the size and athleticism to play inside and out, battle in traffic and score at every level. He handles the ball well and does all the dirty work to make Holton a tough opponent.
Andrew Wilson, guard, 2022, Tonganoxie – 4A 2nd team, Sports in Kansas
A point guard who could do some of everything for a solid Tonganoxie team. He paired with Zane Novotney to form a dynamic offensive tandem. Wilson was often his team’s top scoring option.
L.J. Berkstresser, 6-foot guard, 2023, El Dorado – 4A 2nd team, Sports in Kansas
The El Dorado guard was a sneaky and athletic defender who ripped off a couple of steals a game. He did good things once he had the ball in his hands as a quick, lean playmaker. He averaged 14 points and 2.5 assists per game.
Jack Duarte, 6-foot-3 forward, 2022, Collegiate – 3A 1st team, KSHSAA and Sports in Kansas
A brilliant deep shooter, Duarte had some big outbursts last season. Duarte was a versatile wing who gave Collegiate a lot of options. He could guard shooters and ball handlers, and was physical enough to bang inside.
Owen Evans Owen Evans 6'1" | SG Heritage Christian Academy | 2023 KS , 6-foot-1 guard, 2023, Olathe Heritage Christian – 3A 2nd team, Sports in Kansas
Evans put up some brilliant numbers this winter, dishing out a remarkable 7 assists per game. He got his own points with 16 per game. He is a versatile shooting guard who gets dirty and produces at both ends.
Nolan Juenemann, 6-foot-7 center, 2022 Norton – 3A 2nd team, Sports in Kansas
Juenemann is an overlooked big man who deserves the notoriety he finally got as a senior. He’s a powerful center with long arms and the ability to block a lot of shots. He averaged 14 points and 7 boards for a really tough Norton team.
