There are times when we don’t get the opportunity to see prospects until the season has ended and prospects will go to events such as the Southern California Senior Showcase at Santiago Canyon College. An event for unsigned Seniors, Prep School, and some Juco. Our focus in this article is on NorCal players we haven’t seen
Casen Chaney 6’1 PG, SG of Ponderosa
Chaney, the lefty has good flow to his game. He’s a constant threat when he has the ball in his hands, looking to pass up in transition. He’ll find that open player while flowing along the perimeter until he sees an opening to attack the paint with floaters, or paint jumpers. He has a nice mid-range pull up jumper off the dribble on balance, and he’ll knock down 3’s in the flow.
Montell Shelton 6’9 PF/C of Antelope
Shelton is a good sized prospect we are seeing for the first time. He has the body and decent movement in the paint to be an effective post player when he’s on the court. With his size and aggressive nature in the paint he’ll get paint touches, but he’ll have to learn to finish the shots he takes. He’s a big body on defense that can bump and bang, he’ll rebound. He has the body, there’s room for him to grow his game.
Max Driffin 6’6 W/F of Antelope
Driffin is a long winged player, he could be a late bloomer, with more time in the weight room we could see improvement. He tends to get lost in the flow at times, but he has good fundamentals, a willing passer, and he runs the court, he was more active later in the games. He did well playing without the ball, closing out, and going towards the rim for tip ins, and rebounds.
Tj Mateevy 6’7 W/F of Granite Bay
Mateevy a long player with good athleticism on the court. He’s a 2 sport athlete (Volleyball) which might explain his good balance and timing going up for rebounds. He spots up well in the corner for 3’s, he had a couple. He has the length to defend in the post, but did well guarding and closing out on the perimeter shooters. He has some tools he can use to get points.
Nick Von Zboray Nick Von Zboray 6'4" | SF Ponderosa | 2022 State CA-N 5’11 PG, SG of Ponderosa
Zboray can play both guard positions depending on the situation. He has good patience with decent handles to run an offense. Although he stands at 5’11, he might best be used off the ball where he can knock down open 3’s with regularity. He hit deep 3’s from the top and on the wings. He plays well off two feet from the drive into the paint.
