Luke Reder 2024 6’5 Tomball Memorial High School
Luke is a sharp shooting combo guard who has the ability to hang thirty on any night. He has a very consistent release and his height allows him to shoot over the top of most guards. He is great at moving without the basketball and can quickly set his feet and square up to the rim for a good look. He can operate out of the high post and create offense for his teammates as well, drawing the attention of the defense as soon as he puts his head down and then accurately making the right read to his open shooters. Tomball Memorial lost to a very good Cypress Falls team in the first round.
Bryce Matthews 2024 Fort Bend Clements High School
Bryce is a strong combo guard who thrives at attacking the basket. He has strong moves when getting into the teeth of the defense and can euro step his way out of trouble. He can get to his shot at all three levels, especially off of the bounce. The pairing of him and fellow sophomore Divine Ugochukwu is sure to be a fun pairing to watch as they continue to grow. Even if they do not have a strong playoff performance now, the two of them should be playing off each other into another playoff appearance next year as well. Bryce and his sophomore running mate (Divine Ugochukwu, 2024) are the main reason Fort Bend Clements is having late success, after taking down Katy Tompkins, Cy Fair and Mayde Creek. Clements is going to tear some teams apart over the next few years…
Ja’varius Thompson 2024 6’0 Nimitz High School
Ja’varius is a fearless guard who has a knack with finishing with the best of them in the paint. He is great at attacking downhill and putting his body on the line to put the other team into foul trouble and to get off shots at the rim. I was very impressed with the amount of gravity and attention he draws when he has the basketball, and how good he was at finding the open teammate when he felt an extra defender. He is a great set shooter when he gets a chance to set his feet and play off the ball. Nimitz is a team to keep your eye on, they have two especially good sophomore guards that could make the leap real soon… Aldine Nimitz beat Grand Oaks High School in the first round, but eventually lost to Cypress Ranch High School in the second round.
Luke Coughran Luke Coughran 6'2" | SG Dream City Chrisitan | 2024 State AZ 2024 Katy Tompkins High School
Luke is an impressive young wing who you can tell is not done growing, he possesses great arm length which allows him to finish at the rim with ease. His consistency in the paint was very impressive, even against strong defenders. He has great off ball awareness and is great at flashing to the high post or cutting to the basket to give his team a passing option and put pressure on the middle of the defense. He even displayed an ability to knock down shots around the arc when given time to catch and shoot. I would like to see him get more aggressive with the basketball, and hunt for his shot more. Katy Tompkins lost to Fort Bend Clements in the first round this year.
