The all-around 6-foot-2 senior guard has certainly put points on the board – he leads 4A in over 27 per game – but it’s been his contributions everywhere on the court for the Cardinals that has led to wins for the team and hopefully college opportunities for him as well.
“Going into this season, me and my point guard, Lane Fort, we knew we had to lead this team,” Fundak said. “We put this team on our back to be leaders. I’m doing my job for scoring and the guys are putting in work. It’s a lot of team work – we only have six main guys that are playing with us and I’m taking the scoring load most of the time and doing whatever I can to lead my team.”
Fundak and the Cardinals are in their current position with much thanks to his offensive production. In their play-in victory over Tillamook, he was scoring at all three levels, knocking down quick trigger deep threes while also hitting pull-ups and converting athletic drives to the hoop.
“Attacking the rim for me and reading the court, when I need to go or not or pass it out has gone well,” Fundak said. “I’ve also developed a better three-point shot than I used to have and it’s really helped me spread out the floor. It’s given me more chances to go inside, which has helped me a lot.”
Smaller schools don’t as much visibility to college coaches but Fundak’s numbers are hard to ignore. Corbett head coach Don Carter notes that Clackamas CC has been in touch and others are starting to show interest, something the guard is hopeful for.
“I want to play in college – it’s one of my hopes,” Fundak said. “Hopefully after the season I’ll get more coaches talking to me and I’ll be able to go and play. I’m just trying to get my college paid for really and study business.”
Corbett’s next game is on Friday night when they hit the road to take on Marshfield. It’s for the right to play next week at the 4A state tournament and the senior is ready.
“Every night, on and off the court my teammates and I are getting together, we’re talking and hanging out,” Fundak said. “Our chemistry is one of the biggest things that’s important for our team. This is my final year and I’m trying to get a win.”
Fundak currently ranks as the #91 ranked player in the PrepHoops Oregon Class of 2022 rankings.
