The NCHSAA State Playoffs are approaching the Final Four this weekend as the Eastern and Western Regionals headline the Saturday schedule. Here’s a preview of the NCHSAA 4A West Final.
Weddington (29-0) vs. North Mecklenburg (27-4) – 4 PM
Weddington already got North Mecklenburg’s conference rival JL Chambers out the way in the semifinals. Now, they’ll need to defeat an experienced group in the Vikings in the Finals to keep their unbeaten season alive and look to win a 4A State title after winning the 3A State crown in 2020-21. Chase Lowe Chase Lowe 6'4" | SF Weddington | 2022 State NC , AJ Cook AJ Cook 5'10" | SG Weddington | 2022 State NC and Kyle Frazier Kyle Frazier 6'3" | SG Weddington | 2022 State NC are quite the talented trio to defend against but North Mecklenburg has their fair share of weapons as well. Lowe has been unstoppable regardless of who’s put in front of him as he’s put up 16.8 ppg, 8.1 rpg, 4.4 apg and 2.6 spg as an all-around presence for them on the wing. Cook has knocked down 83 3-pointers while Frazier has drained 80 on the season for the Warriors.
Led by Jordan Crawford Jordan Crawford 6'2" | PG North Mecklenburg | 2022 State NC and Davion Cunningham Davion Cunningham 6'1" | CG North Mecklenberg | 2022 State NC , the Vikings have some young talent on the rise in Isaiah Evans Isaiah Evans 6'6" | SG North Mecklenburg | 2024 State #17 Nation NC and unsigned seniors Tyree Bracey and Maxwell Coles. Crawford led all scorers in their victory over Myers Park in the semifinals with 25 points. Bracey and Coles finished with 16 points apiece while Evans finished with 12 points, six rebounds and four blocks to show off his versatility on the wing. North Mecklenburg will look to punch their ticket to the State Finals after coming up short last year. All eyes will certainly be on McDowell High on Saturday.
