The Hamilton West-Brick Memorial game was no different as the game went down to the wire with the Mustangs pulling out a 51-50 victory in overtime. Here are the top impact performers from the Hamilton West-Brick Memorial Central Jersey Group 3 quarterfinal game.
Maurice Williams Maurice Williams 5'10" | PG Hamilton West | 2022 State NJ , 5’10 PG Hamilton West 2022
Williams was electric for the Hornets as he made plays all over the floor in the loss. The 5’10 guard was hard to keep out of the lane and finished nicely around the basket. Williams shot the ball with confidence from distance and was able to set his feet to shoot off the dribble. He threw beautiful lob passes and got deflections on the defensive end. Williams is a lightning quick floor general who made plays for Hamilton West all season long.
Brian Starrett, 6’0 PG Brick Memorial 2023
Starrett had a big all-around game for the Mustangs as he drove the offense all game. The 6’0 guard hit the game-tying shot to send the game into overtime and was unafraid of taking big shots down the stretch. Starrett used his handle effectively as he was able to get into the lane and finish around the basket. He made good passes throughout the game and fought for rebounds on both ends of the floor. Starrett is the engine that drives Brick Memorial and is looking to carry it over into the sectional semifinal game against Robbinsville.
Josh Michigan Josh Michigan 6'4" | SG Compass Prep | 2024 State NJ , 6’3 SG Brick Memorial 2023
Michigan started the game slow, but played a key part in the Mustangs’ quarterfinal victory. The 6’3 guard was able to get to his spot on the floor and rise up over his defender. Michigan moved well without the ball, freeing himself up for open layups and jumpers. He has a nice release on his jumper and was not rushed on his shots. Michigan’s ability to knock down shots on the perimeter is something that will help the Mustangs in the Central Jersey Group 3 semifinals.
Jeremy Ellis Jeremy Ellis 6'6" | PF Hamilton West | 2022 State NJ , 6’6 PF Hamilton West 2022
Ellis made an impact at both ends of the floor throughout the game with his athleticism and length. The 6’6 forward skied for a couple of big-time blocks and altered plenty of others around the basket. Ellis gobbled up rebounds as he allowed very few offensive boards on the defensive glass. He elevated for a couple of big-time slams, which excited the visiting fans. Ellis is an athletic forward prospect who made plays on both ends of the floor for Hamilton West this season.
Luke Braaten Luke Braaten 6'7" | PF Brick Memorial | 2022 State NJ , 6’7 PF Brick Memorial 2022
Braaten played a pivotal role as he held down the post for the Mustangs. The 6’7 forward was able to get position down low and was able to draw contact with consistency. Braaten showed a good touch on his free throws and was unafraid of taking them during key situations. He fought for rebounds on both ends of the floor and used his length to swat shots around the basket. Braaten is a hard-working forward prospect who should continue to play well for Brick Memorial this season.
