I traveled long and far across the entire state of Georgia from the North to the South, East to West to see some of the most intriguing matchups throughout the state tournament. Now that I can finally catch my breath, here are some of the top performers I saw over the past month of the GHSA State Playoffs.
2022 6-3 W Tydrekis Braswell Tydrekis Braswell 6'3" | SG Thomson | 2022 State GA – Thomson
Well-rounded wing that scores at all three levels. Drilled three threes in the Final 4. Finishes at the rim. Has the length and foot speed to defend 1-3.
2022 6-1 W Cam Gaither Cam Gaither 6'1" | SG Social Circle | 2022 State GA – Social Circle
Solid wing that can play either off-ball perimeter position. Lefty is a good athlete that likes to help rebound. Has a one-dribble pull-up but really enjoys slashing inside. Hit a big corner three in the fourth quarter to help Redskins beat Calhoun County 88-77. Holds LaGrange College offer.
2023 6-5 W Shamarrie Hugie Shamarrie Hugie 6'5" | SF Beach | 2023 State GA – Beach
Holds the size, athleticism and skill to potentially become a solidified D-I prospect. Toolsy swingman impacts the game in multiple ways. Ignites his own fast breaks off rebounds and can push the length of the floor. Makes plays off the bounce as a distributor and of course scorer. Shoots the three well. Smooth slasher that can finish above the rim. Has shown flashes of being a dynamic defender capable of guarding 1-4.
2022 6-4 W Ted Hurst – Johnson-Savannah
Valdosta State football-signee is a rim wrecking athlete. Long strides cover a lot of ground when attacking the basket. Elevates to throw down slams in traffic. Quick off his feet. Effective offensive rebounder. Shoots the three off the dribble. Uses his length and explosiveness to make plays on defense. Could play both at VSU.
2022 6-5 W Zion Odoms – Northeast-Macon
Signed to play wide receiver at Marshall, Odoms is a wiry athlete that’s calling card is on defense. He meets opponents at the rim and cleans the glass. A threat to catch lobs. Region 3-2A Defensive Player of the Year.
