This will not talk about the best players I saw but it will talk about the players I left the gym the most excited about second team edition.
Grant Burkholder Grant Burkholder 5'9" | PG Newark | 2023 State OH (2023) – PG 5’9 – Newark
Burkholder is the player you want running your offense. He is a very skilled point guard that has great pace and is a great competitor. Newark has a very nice offense and plays a very strategic style and Burkholder is the perfect person to run it. Shows great patience and never forces anything but he is very clutch. He hits every big-time shot his team needs, inside and out. Has a great handle on the ball and some great moves to give him space to get open. Hits tough shots, especially in the mid-range. He is a great leader by talking and leading by example. Does a great job of finishing for his size. He does it all for Newark and I know he will do the same for any team at the next level.
Brent Moss Brent Moss 6'5" | SF Lima Sr | 2022 State OH (2022) – F 6’6 – Lima Senior
Brent Moss Brent Moss 6'5" | SF Lima Sr | 2022 State OH is a player!! He is a very unique player because of his skill set. He is a 6’6 forward that is a very nice athletic player. A super long-player that uses it greatly on the defensive end. Blocks many shots that seem out of reach. Moss played fanatics in the games I watched him play on the defensive end shutting down the opposing team’s best player. He can guard every position on the court. He has some great bounce that can be seen as he usually gets a dunk or two a game. Does a great job of rebounding. The thing I like about Moss the most is his guard-like skill set. He is impressive to watch on the break because of his dribbling ability. He has a great post-up game because of his handle as well. Uses it well to get to the rim and shake defenders. He has an inconsistent jumper but it goes down more times than not and when he gets it going no one is going to be able to guard him. This kid is a steal.
Jair Knight Jair Knight 6'2" | SG Saint Edward | 2022 State OH (2022) – G 6’2 – St. Edwards
I quickly fell in love with Knight after the first game I watched him play. I watched him play against St. John’s Jesuit and he had an unbelievable game. Knight has it all physically. He is super long with great size and height for a guard. Athletically, he is high level – very very bouncy, fast, and quick, with great lateral movement that makes him a lockdown defender. Knight has great hands defensively as well. Good anticipation for steals and help-side blocks. Every highlight reel I saw of him this year had my jaw on the ground. He is an inconsistent shooter but when he gets it going he is unguardable with his ability to get to the rim as well. He also plays very hard and gives you great energy when he gets on the court.
Kennez Bozeman (2022) – F 6’3 – Northmont
Bozeman is a very unique player that I love. His arms scrap the ground when he runs. He has great bounce as well that he uses to go and hunt boards on both ends. He plays very hard and runs the floor better than anyone I saw this season. He is a perfect player that will come in and give you great minutes and energy off the bench at the next level. Will do whatever you ask from him. Makes winning plays. Made unbelievable plays around the rim on both the defensive and offensive end. Rebounds over any and everyone. On defense, he is a great rim protector and can guard much bigger players in the post because of his length and strength.
Chase Walker Chase Walker 6'8" | C St. Charles | 2023 State OH (2023) – F 6’8 – St. Charles
I absolutely love what Walker brings to the table. He has great size and uses it very well as he is dominant in the post. He moves very well for his size as well. He moves defenders out of his way on the block and posts incredibly hard and gives his teammates a big target to throw at as he can go get the ball. Walker has great footwork and moves in the post that can finish with both hands. He is also an underrated passer. When he gets the ball in the post he requires a double and when he gets doubled he finds a way to always deliver the ball to the open player. Very high IQ player. I also love his hustle. Goes after loose balls and every board that comes in his direction. He picked up an offer from Toledo after his last game this season and I expect him to pick up much more after this AAU season.
