College Commitment: Jacob Axmaker (2022 Stayton)
Jacob Axmaker Jacob Axmaker 6'0" | CG Stayton | 2022 State OR is off the board. The sharp-shooting 6-foot, 170-pound combo guard had been looking at Jamestown College in North Dakota for quite some time and even made a trip out and everything checked off all the boxes. Now that the year is over, the Stayton senior felt no need to wait any longer and on Wednesday, made the call that he wanted to be a Jimmie.
“I went on a visit towards the beginning of their season and loved it there,” Axmaker said. “They made me feel like I was apart of the family already. I kept in contact with them over the next few months and then their head coach took a trip out to watch a game and that was one of the final things that pushed me to want to go there.”
“Just to see the drive from the coaching staff on continuing to recruit me until I commit showed how much they wanted me to come play for them,” Axmaker continued. “And lastly I fit their play style well and feel like I can have a big impact on the program.”
Axmaker had a number of programs looking at him but in the end, Jamestown clearly showed the most love. He’ll enter the NAIA level ready to contribute right away, coming off a year where he averaged over 24.8 points and 4.4 assists in league play and helped lead Stayton to a 6th place finish at the OSAA 4A State Tournament.
“It was a good senior season,” Axmaker said. “We didn’t place as well as we could’ve or wanted to, but still proud of what we accomplished. And the thing I’ll remember the most will definitely be the 2 trips we went on for state and beating the defending state champs to knock them out of the state tournament at their home gym.”
Our congratulations go out to Axmaker and his family on his decision. He currently ranks as the #XX player in the PrepHoops Oregon Class of 2022 rankings.
