The Dale Pirates captured their first ever state championship in boys basketball on Saturday by knocking off Cashion. The title game was a match-up featuring a senior-led Cashion team and a Dale team that only had sophomores and freshmen in their starting lineup. The Class 2A state tourney overall was full of fantastic players and in this post, we take a look at the best of the best with our MVP and All Tournament selections!
Dayton Forsythe Dayton Forsythe 6'3" | PG Dale | 2024 State #206 Nation OK – 2024 Guard – Dale (Most Valuable Player)
There’s no doubt who the MVP selection was for the Class 2A state tournament. Out of the five classes that decided championships in the last week, Class 2A was probably the easiest to pick an MVP. Dale sophomore guard Dayton Forsythe Dayton Forsythe 6'3" | PG Dale | 2024 State #206 Nation OK was hands down the best player in the state tournament and he led the Pirates to their first ever state championship in school history. He showed why he’s legitimately in the conversation this year for being the top player in Oklahoma. He’s such a dynamic player and is so advanced for a sophomore. He nearly dropped 40 in the state championship win.
Ethan Wilkerson Ethan Wilkerson 6'7" | PF Madill | 2024 State OK – 2024 Forward – Silo
Silo was making their first trip to the state tournament in nearly 50 years. However, we expect the Rebels to not have to wait that long for another trip to state. Sophomore forward Ethan Wilkerson Ethan Wilkerson 6'7" | PF Madill | 2024 State OK was just as dominant as advertised and he helped lead the Rebels to the semifinals. It’s hard to think that he won’t have Silo right back in contention next year.
Jonah Jenkins Jonah Jenkins 6'0" | PG Cashion | 2022 State OK – 2022 Guard – Cashion
The first of two Cashion Wildcats on this list is senior guard Jonah Jenkins Jonah Jenkins 6'0" | PG Cashion | 2022 State OK . In addition to this season, Jenkins has been so critical to Cashion’s success over the last few seasons. This was a senior-led Cashion team and Jenkins played well in the state tournament. While they came up short to Dale in the title game, Jenkins and his Cashion teammates went out with their heads high.
Landon LaGasse – 2022 Forward – Cashion
While Jenkins has been a star for Cashion’s basketball team, fellow senior Landon LaGasse was more of a star on the football field. He was one of the top wide receivers in the state in 2021 but he was also consistent throughout the state tournament. He joined Jenkins in averaging double figures and had a massive first round game from beyond the arc.
Zach Hidalgo Zach Hidalgo 6'8" | C Hooker | 2022 State OK – 2022 Forward – Hooker
Hooker ended up falling to Dale and superstar Dayton Forsythe Dayton Forsythe 6'3" | PG Dale | 2024 State #206 Nation OK in the first round but the Bulldogs had a strong showing against the eventual champs. And leading the way for Hooker was senior big man Zach Hidalgo Zach Hidalgo 6'8" | C Hooker | 2022 State OK . The Hooker big man was one of the better forwards in Oklahoma’s senior class and he was able to show that on a big stage. Even if it was just one game.
