Beaumont United High School vs Weiss High School
Beaumont United High School:
Wesley Yates Wesley Yates 6'4" | SG Beaumont United | 2023 State #36 Nation TX III 2023 6’4 Beaumont United High School
Wesley is a dynamic scoring option from all three levels of the floor and thrives at getting his shot off of the dribble. He plays with confidence and swagger, and that translates in his ability to dominate his opponent with a live dribble. Whether he is getting to his shot off the dribble or getting downhill and attacking the rim, Yates always makes an impact on the offensive end. His ability to shoot the ball is a real weapon for his team, as he is able to stretch the floor out to the fourth level. I was incredibly impressed by his ability to shoot the ball, even when he seemed to possibly be playing through a shoulder injury when I saw him. He has a real nose for the ball, and is a willing rebounder on both ends of the floor, but routinely comes up with extra shot opportunities on the offensive end. Coach Green has all of these high level athletes playing at a very high level, willing to do all of the little things and he has unlocked a bit of a beast in all of his players.
Terrance Arceneaux Terrance Arceneaux 6'7" | SF Beaumont United | 2022 State #46 Nation TX 2022 6’7 Beaumont United High School
Terrance is a lanky and athletic wing with all of the tools to dominate the next level, and looks to be a perfect fit for Coach Kelvin Sampson and his staff at the University of Houston. Sampson and his staff were in attendance for their matchup against Fort Bend Hightower (highlights below). Arceneaux truly affects the game on both ends of the floor and his presence makes his opponents uncomfortable. Every time smaller guards drive in to attack the rim, they seem to be looking over their shoulder waiting for Terrance to smack their shot into the bleachers. He is a willing rim protector, who loves to jump on the fast break after he causes a turnover. His ability and willingness to put the team on his back is incredibly impressive and it is not hard to figure out why he widely considered one of the best wings in Texas. Coach Green has all of these high level athletes playing at a very high level, willing to do all of the little things and he has unlocked a bit of a beast in all of his players. It will be fun to see him join the University of Houston as he will remain in the Houston area!
Weiss High School
Tyson Whybrew Tyson Whybrew 6'5" | SF Weiss | 2022 State TX 2022 6’6 Weiss High School
Tyson is a lanky forward who thrives at stretching the floor and dominating in the paint. He has a strong ability to move his feet and affect the game on the defensive end the floor. He is a real rim protector who can come in on the weak side and turn away shots or chasing down his opponent. He is such a punishing force on the interior on the defensive side of the ball, that it truly opens up his outside game. He is a real threat out of the pick and pop, and his size and ability to play with another big allows him to always find space, as the other big flashes to the rim as Whybrew sets the screen. I would like to see him become a bit more aggressive with a live dribble and be more willing to hunt for his shot in the paint.
Crosby High School vs Paetow High School
Crosby High School:
P.J. Haggerty P.J. Haggerty 6'3" | PG Crosby | 2022 State #169 Nation TX 2022 6’3 Crosby High School
PJ Haggerty is an efficient scorer from the midrange and he specializes in finishing at the rim. His ability to put pressure on the defense by his relentless attacking of the rim is incredibly draining and defeating for a defense. When they force him to the free throw line, he calmly knocks down shot after after shot. His ability to finish at the rim is so impressive for his size and really makes him a tremendous offensive weapon. He does not only use his size to score at will however, he is an active defender who uses his length to dominate his opponent. Whether he is coming away with his opponent’s passes or poking the ball free he always has his hands involved in the play. Haggerty has all the tools to be an efficient scorer and a dynamic player at the next level and I am intrigued to watch to see where he goes.
Sean Elkington 2022 6’7 Crosby High School
Sean is a highly skilled big man who can punish you in a number of ways. He can use his brute size and strength to back you down in the post and bunny hook you to death, or get you on an island in the mid post and create offense or step back beyond the arc and knock down shots when given the time to catch and shoot. I was impressed with his ability to pick apart the defense from the high post and the attention Elkington garnered. He was one of the most polished big men in the Houston area and thrived at all three levels of the floor. He is one to keep watching next year as he takes his talents to the next level, he is currently committed to St. Edwards University in Austin.
Paetow High School (Katy):
Trevor Frank 2022 5’11 Katy Paetow High School
