On Tuesday we saw Sacred Heart Prep take down Menlo at home 76-53. On Thursday Rodriquez had a nice comeback to defeat Wood 43-34 in Fairfield. Friday’s action put us in Stockton for Manteca at Weston Ranch in which The Ranch took down Manteca 77-67. Here’s the top players of each game.
Kevin Carney Kevin Carney 5'9" | PG Sacred Heart Prep | 2022 State 5’9 2022 SG of Sacred Heart Prep
Carney had the hot hand early, and often as SHP raced off to a 25-12 first quarter lead behind Carney, who lit up the score board with four 3’s in the opening quarter. He hit 3’s in the corners, on catch 3’s from the wings, and off the dribble at the top from way behind the 3pt line. He had a couple of nice reverse layups on drives, and cuts to the basket. He finished as the games leading scorer. Six 3’s, and 23pts.
Lucas Vogel Lucas Vogel 6'4" | SG Menlo | 2023 State 6’4 2023 CG of Menlo.
It was our first look at Vogel. He put in an a solid effort with his ability to knock down the the mid-range jumper, he has good lift on his shot. He showed good patience when working inside to get shots up off two feet, and bodies flying around him. He moves well cutting back door. He can knock down the 3 in the corner, and on the wings. He finished with 15pts.
Leroy Bryant Leroy Bryant 6'0" | PG Rodriquez | 2023 State 6’0 2023 PG of Rodriquez.
Bryant a well built PG has all the tools necessary to lead a team at the point guard position. By our count he played the entire game. He showed good patience running the teams offense. He has the vision, and speed to go along with quality handles to push or pass going up court. He plays with good balance and strength going inside to challenge the defender. His on ball defense will cause problems for handlers. He finished with 10pts, 5rebs, 3stls.
Devin Minouei 6’1 2022 G of Wood
Minouei has good handles, and foot speed as he handles ball pressure bringing the ball up court. He repeatedly got by defenders to make his way into the paint for kickout passes, dump offs, or using his good lift jumper in the paint. He has a decent jump shot and will hit the catch 3 in rhythm. 10pts.
Khristian Holmes Khristian Holmes 6'0" | PG Weston Ranch | 2023 State 6’0 2023 G of Weston Ranch
Holmes is a thick body lefty who can handle the physical contact that comes with his repeated attacks going towards the basket from different angles. He’ll initiate contact, withstand the bump, and put it high enough over long stretched arms to complete the play with a foul. He can handle, push, and pass. He scored 18pts.
Justice Chase 6’0 2022 G of Manteca.
It was our first look at Chase. He’s a solid guard on a team that needs him to be productive. He can handle and use his strength to get into areas where he can score. He showed he could take his man off the dribble, and finish in different ways once he gets into the paint. He plays with good energy on defense with the foot speed to stay in front of ball handlers, and he’ll rebound from the guard position. He produced 16pts
