Under the Radar Guards 2022
In this article:
Utah is loaded with guards that can play at the next level. They key is for them to find the right situation that will enable them to play their game and continue to develop. With a few colleges looking for a few under the radar guards here are a few more to look at that might fit the bill for the next level or a need.
6’4 G Robbie Yates Robbie Yates 6'3" | CG Cottonwood | 2022 State UT || Cottonwood High School || 2022 ||
Robbie is finally starting to showcase his talent as he was at Olympus last season and there was a log jam of guards there that play at a high level and over at Cottonwood he can see the floor and produce and he been huge at times for a team that is always looking for scoring. Robbie can do it at every level as he can score from deep but also use his strength and IQ to get int he lanes and create for himself and others. Could be a nice find for a small school or a d3 looking for a scoring punch but also a player with positional size.
6’2 G James Oldroyd || Timpview High School || 2022 ||
James has been playing well and he is a good stat stuffer as he gets in there and mixes it up with the bigs and holds his own on the rebounding front. He is scoring 13 PPG for a team that is starting to get some confidence and surge at the right time. The most impressive aspect about his game is that he could get it going form deep and go off for 4 to 5 three’s in a game. This is going to come in handy as the season progresses but also a big quality at the next level.
6’3 G Brock Williams Brock Williams 6'2" | SG Syracuse | 2022 State UT || Syracuse High School || 2022 ||
With a solid stat line of 14, 4 and 3 but he has had some big games especially his last outing where he went off for 27 points and he also hit 5 three-pointers. This kid has next level ability and we would like to see him run with some other hoopers at the next level so he could have some more freedom and space to work. Till then he is making doo with what he has and he is doing it in various categories as a stat stuffer.
6’2 G Merrick Sherwood Merrick Sherwood 6'4" | SG Mountain Ridge | 2022 State UT || Mountain Ridge High School || 2022 ||
Merrick is coming into his own as he is out there lighting it from deep but he is also doing so much more. Merrick is putting up a whopping 17 points a game and hauling in 5 rebounds as well. Although he is under the radar he is starting to garner some attention and looks from coaches at the college level. Long shot to reach 1,00 points but it is within grasp.
6’4 G Connor Wilson Connor Wilson 6'4" | SG Layton | 2022 State UT || Layton High School || 2022 ||
Another stat stuffer at 14, 3 and 3 Connor can shoot but he does not rely on his outside shot to really get it going as he is a player that can carve his way into the lane and get buckets. Major competitor. He is a must watch prospect that just finds ways to score.
