On Monday, the final rankings came out and the playoff match-ups will soon be announced for 6A and 5A. For the lower classes, they’ve already been announced. This is officially the “tune up” portion of the schedule where games count for nothing other than conference title races as playoff seeding is already set. Despite that, we still had some very entertaining games across Oklahoma and we’re here to recap it all with the Tuesday Night Headlines. We also saw some standout individual performances as well.
BOOKER T WASHINGTON 80, MUSKOGEE 77 (OT)
We start with arguably the game of the night as Booker T Washington traveled to Muskogee and escaped overtime on the road with an 80-77 victory over the Roughers. The Hornets handled the Roughers by 25 points when they met in December but Muskogee is playing really good basketball right now and could end up being a problem in the playoffs. However, on this night, the difference for the Hornets was certainly at the free throw line. Booker T Washington made 37 of their 42 free throws and that was going to be tough to beat for Muskogee.
The Roughers were led by Javontae Campbell Javontae Campbell 6'2" | SG Muskogee | 2022 State OK , who led all scorers with 33 points. Right behind Campbell was Booker T Washington star guard Aaron Potter Aaron Potter 6'2" | SG Owasso | 2022 State OK , who finished with 31 points for the Hornets. Kam Parker Kam Parker 6'2" | PG Booker T Washington | 2022 State OK finished with 26 points for Booker T Washington and Muskogee just did not have enough firepower to keep up with Booker T Washington’s offense. It should be noted that the Hornets were without senior guard Ijai Johnson Ijai Johnson 6'1" | SG Booker T. Washington | 2022 State OK .
BROKEN ARROW 77, BARTLESVILLE 65
Broken Arrow needed to get a win to get some momentum going as the playoffs are right around the corner. After losing three straight, the Tigers bounced back in a big way by beating Bartlesville on the road with a 77-65 win. Up next for Broken Arrow is a road game on Friday against a Bixby team that they will then face in the opening round of regionals in a few weeks. BA had no problems beating the Spartans back in early January. But this win on Tuesday was exactly what the Tigers need to kickstart their final push before the playoffs begin.
Leading the way for Broken Arrow was junior forward Connor Dow Connor Dow 6'6" | SF Broken Arrow | 2023 State #252 Nation OK , who finished with 20 points. In fact, the Tigers had four players finish in double figures and star senior guard Anthony Allen Anthony Allen 6'5" | SF Broken Arrow | 2022 State OK was their fourth leading scorer, finishing with 13 points. If the Tigers are getting that kind of production to the point where Allen isn’t asked to carry so much offensively, this Tiger team will be tough to match up with when the playoffs roll around. Broken Arrow is now locked into the five seed and will play Bixby in the first round and more than likely a rematch with Owasso for the regional championship.
COLLINSVILLE 66, COWETA 56
I was excited to see this game as Collinsville traveled to Coweta to take on the Tigers in an east side 5A battle. The Cardinals went on a run late in the first quarter to take a commanding lead that they would never give up, going on to win 66-56. They used a suffocating defense to force countless Coweta turnovers that turned into quick buckets. The Cardinals are the #2 seed on the east side in Class 5A, right behind Tulsa Memorial. While the Chargers are the heavy favorites on the east side of the state, don’t be quick to overlook this Collinsville team that has won nine in a row and is playing good basketball right now.
EDMOND MEMORIAL 54, MOORE 40
A day after locking up the #1 seed for the west side in Class 6A, Edmond Memorial showed why they are one of the favorites to win it all in the state’s largest class. They beat up on a Moore team that will also be hosting a regional after finishing #3 in the west side rankings. The Bulldogs beat the Lions 54-40, ending Moore’s six-game winning streak. The Bulldogs have more work to do between now and the end of the regular season. They have rivalry clashes with Edmond North and Santa Fe as well as a road game in Mustang.
NEWCASTLE 60, TUTTLE 43
Finally in Class 4A, we got another example of just how unpredictable that class truly is and how entertaining the playoffs could end up being. #8 Newcastle took down #5 Tuttle and made it look easy with a 60-43 victory. But less than a month ago, Tuttle beat up on Newcastle 61-45 so we truly don’t know what to think when it comes to these teams as we go down the stretch of the regular season. One thing is certain, whoever ends up making it to the state tourney in Class 4A will have earned it, but the prize will be another gauntlet run in OKC.
TOP INDIVIDUAL PERFORMANCES
Braedon Lloyd – 2024 Guard – Mount Saint Mary
Mount Saint Mary won their 9th consecutive game on Tuesday, beating Tecumseh 78-55. Leading the way was sophomore guard Braedon Lloyd, who finished with a game-high 32 points. Mount Saint Mary is on a roll right now, going unbeaten for nearly a month. They should take plenty of momentum into the Class 4A playoffs.
