On Wednesday I caught Warren G Harding defeat Canton Glen Oak and then on Friday saw Walnut Hills advance over Princeton. Finally on Saturday Fairfield took down Archbishop Moeller. In this article I’ll be breaking down the top upperclassmen performers from these games.
Tyriq Ivory Tyriq Ivory 5'11" | PG Warren G Harding | 2022 State OH , 5’11 PG Warren G Harding 2022: Ivory is a two-sport stud for Harding, excelling on the gridiron and the hardwood. Ivory is a tough guard who provides value on both ends. Ivory had multiple steals on ball defensively and took advantage with transition layups by finishing through contact. Ivory is one heck of a high school player and willed his team to victory. If he prioritized basketball, he’d be a scholarship prospect for sure.
Javion Bostic Javion Bostic 6'2" | SG Winton Woods | 2023 State OH , 6’1 SG Walnut Hills 2023: Bostic thrived when the game went up and down against Princeton. Bostic made his only 3-point attempt of the game and drew fouls to score 12 points, second most on his team. Bostic is an impressive athlete who will need to play as well, if not better in the next round against Fairfield if Walnut Hills wants to advance.
Riley Woods Riley Woods 5'9" | PG Princeton | 2023 State OH , 5’8 PG Princeton 2023: Woods is a very quick and shifty guard that can get to the basket when he wants. Woods has improved as a shooter and led his team in assists with three. With some freshman guards also getting action, it’ll be interesting to see how Princeton rotates their guards next season with so much talent returning.
Evan Mahaffey Evan Mahaffey 6'6" | SF Moeller | 2022 State #160 Nation OH , 6’6 SF Moeller 2022: Mahaffey is the best defensive prospect in the class and made some wow plays in my only action of him during his senior season. Mahaffey is clearly more valuable next to more talented offensive players, but I got to see some progression from him on that end with such a high usage role. Mahaffey has improved his handle but it isn’t to the level where he can consistently create offense for himself. Mahaffey will be the type of player that gets plenty of chances to play early because of his defensive talent and maturity.
Aamir Rogers Aamir Rogers 6'6" | C Fairfield | 2023 State OH , 6’6 C Fairfield 2023: Rogers will never lead the team in scoring, in fact he didn’t make a field goal the entire game against Moeller. Rogers plays his role to perfection and had seven rebounds and some key passes for his team. Rogers will likely be a football prospect at the next level, but his toughness and size is a huge reason why Fairfield has a chance to go far in the playoffs.
