Continue ReadingThis year in Class A boys basketball we have seen a boatload of top tier talent hit the hardwood. From lethal shooters, to high flyers, and dominate post players, there truly have been some exciting prospects to watch in North Dakota. In this article I will be listing more of the top players from the EDC and WDA to watch for as we near the postseason.
Eastern Dakota Conference
Ian Motschenbacher Ian Motschenbacher 6'1" | PG Fargo Davies | 2022 State ND (Fargo Davies) – 18.6ppg 4.3apg 2.2spg
Being apart of the best backcourt in the EDC its not surprise that senior Ian Motschenbacher Ian Motschenbacher 6'1" | PG Fargo Davies | 2022 State ND has had the success that we’ve seen so far. The Northern State commit has been scoring the ball efficiently at 48.4%, finding open teammates with his court vision, and snatching the ball away from opponents on defense. His patience and midrange game have really stuck out to me this season, and his leadership will be key as the Eagles enter the playoffs.
Zach Kraft Zach Kraft 6'2" | PG Grand Forks Red River | 2023 State ND (Grand Forks Red River) – 16.7ppg FT Per. 72.5% 3s Made/Game 2.75
This season for the RoughRiders Junior Zac Kraft has been a force on the offensive end. The shooter is top seven in EDC scoring, is stroking it well from the charity stripe, and knocks down over two shots from the arc per game. Zac’s play has been a main factor toward Red River climbing to 4th in the Eastern standings, and I believe that he will continue to be of high importance in the postseason.
Carson Hegerle Carson Hegerle 6'3" | SG West Fargo | 2022 State ND (West Fargo) – 15.8ppg 6.4rpg 2.9apg 2.7spg
As you can see, defending State champion Carson Hegerle Carson Hegerle 6'3" | SG West Fargo | 2022 State ND has been doing it all this season for the West Fargo Packers. The senior is a smart offensive player who picks his spots well, someone who will find the open guy for a score, and a thief on the defensive end. Being an NDSU football commit Hegerle is a gifted player athletically, and he knows how to use it to dominate his opponents.
Western Dakota Association (These stats were taken from the WDA website and may not be fully up to date by a game or two)
Darik Dissette Darik Dissette 6'4" | SG Minot | 2023 State #300 Nation ND (Minot) – 21.8ppg 7.9rpg 2.2spg FG Per. 55.8%
Leading the top team in the WDA this season is junior Darik Dissette Darik Dissette 6'4" | SG Minot | 2023 State #300 Nation ND . The athletic wing has been an efficient scoring machine that can do it from anywhere, a consistent rebounder, and someone that will sniff out the ball on defense. Don’t be surprised to see this guy throwing it down come playoff time while leading the Magi deep into the tournament.
Ryan Erikson Ryan Erikson 6'10" | C Bismarck Century | 2023 State ND (Bismarck Century) – 16.3ppg 11.7rpg 1.1bpg FG Per. 51.8%
Big man Ryan Erikson Ryan Erikson 6'10" | C Bismarck Century | 2023 State ND has been a force for the second best team in the WDA this season. The Century junior can score the ball at a high rate from down low, is the top rebounder in the conference, and sends back over one shot per game. Ryan is an impressive player in the paint often displaying a variety of skilled post moves, not something you see much more of as the game has changed over the years.
