There was a mix of high school and post grad teams, and there was tons of talent in every game.
Here’s a look at some of the standouts from the North Carolina programs in attendance.
You can see all of the games on playback on the CBG Live Network!
Freddie Dilione Freddie Dilione 6'6" | SG Word of God | 2023 #37 Nation NC | 6’4” CG | Word of God 2023
Dilione was the star of the weekend, averaging 28.5 points per game going for 31 in their win over Liberty Heights and 26 in their win over The Skills Factor, showing he’s a high major recruit who is one of the top scorers on the East Coast. The 6’4” combo can flat out go as he can create off the bounce and get to spots easily, he can make contested shots from all three levels and he gets hot quickly and can fill it up in bunches. He has a mix of size, athleticism and shot creating and making ability, along with a swagger about him that makes him an elite scorer.
Po’Boigh King Po’Boigh King 6'4" | CG Word of God | 2022 State NC | 6’4” WG | Word of God 2022
When it comes to shooters in attendance, there were plenty of them but King has to be in the mix as one of the best. From his size and mobility off the ball to get open, to his smooth form that is as close to perfect as it gets and is very consistent and his ability to get shots off quickly and make shots from deep range easily, he has all the tools that make him a big time shooter at this and the next level. He finished with 18 points, making four shots from beyond the arc, in their win over TSF.
Ja’Kwon Moore | 6’6” WF | Word of God 2023
Moore is another intriguing prospect for this WOG team, as he has great size on the wing and a versatile skill set that allows him to be productive in a number of different ways. He can knock down shots from deep with consistency off the catch, he’s a good secondary ball handler who can create for himself and others and he can guard multiple positions on the defensive end as well. He finished with 15 points on three made three-pointers, 5 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 blocks and 2 steals in their win over TSF.
Cornelius Williams | 6’8” PF | Combine 2022
Williams was fantastic for Combine in their close loss to Commonwealth Basketball Academy on Sunday, as the Murray State commit showed his upside with a lot of plays that will translate to the next level. He’s very long and bouncy and can play above the rim, he has good touch in the paint and at the free throw line and he’s a good rim protector that can move his feet as well. He finished with 15 points and 8 rebounds on Sunday.
Cole Sinclair Cole Sinclair 6'1" | PG Winston-Salem Christian | 2022 State NC | 6’1” WG | Winston-Salem Prep 2022
Sinclair had a big weekend for WSP despite going 0-2 on the weekend, as the strong two guard showed he can fill it up from deep with the best of them. The 6’1” guard has good strength and can play on or off the basketball, he has deep range and is confident in his shooting ability and he can get hot quickly and fill it up in bunches. He finished with 28 points in their loss to Believe Prep and 15 points on five three-pointers in their loss to Massanutten.
Kaden Warner Kaden Warner 6'0" | CG St Joseph Catholic | 2022 State OH | 6’0” PG | Winston-Salem Prep 2022
Sinclair’s backcourt mate who is a flat out bucket at the point guard position, Warner may not be the biggest player but he’s shown time and time again that he can score it with the best of them. He’s super crafty off the bounce and knows how to create space to get open, he can make tough shots from well beyond the arc and in the midrange on the pull-up and he can get in the lane and make plays for himself and others as well. He finished the weekend scoring 19 points in both of their games.
Takai Simpkins Takai Simpkins 6'3" | CG Liberty Heights | 2022 State NC | 6’2” CG | Liberty Heights Varsity 2022
If there’s anyone in the state of North Carolina who has shown they are criminally underrated, it’s been the Simpkins twins who have led a Liberty Heights Varsity team to wins over some of the top teams on the east coast. Takai was fantastic as he shot the ball very well from deep all weekend, he set the tone defensively getting after it and pressuring the ball the whole way and showing his athleticism and as a finisher as well. He finished the weekend 20 points on 5 made three’s in their win over Miller School and 19 points in their win over TSF.
Tajuan Simpkins Tajuan Simpkins 6'4" | CG Liberty Heights | 2022 State NC | 6’3” PG | Liberty Heights Varsity 2022
Takai isn’t the only one who can hoop, as Tajuan is dynamic in his own way as well as he makes plays all over the floor and brings great energy to his team. He’s a big time player in transition where he can make plays for others and play above the rim, he’s a very good on ball defender who can pressure the basketball and he can score it efficiently from a number of levels. He finished with 20 points in their win over TSF and 18 points in their win over Miller School.
