North Idaho Strong Performers: Part 1
Barely south of the US/Canadian border, north Idaho has long stood as a testament to the will of human beings to be able to survive in the harshest and most unforgiving ares of the world. Up there, the sun sets early and rises even later making days short and dreary, if the sun pokes through the dense fog and cloud cover at all on any given day. Up there, the people take pride in being isolated and taking care of themselves. This reliance on only yourself has created a group of basketball players who do very well at pushing through all kinds of adversity and playing hard at all times. These are the hoopers from north Idaho. Continue reading below for a look at some of the top performers recently from north Idaho.
Lakeland vs. Kellogg: Lakeland took home a commanding victory over Kellogg recently in north Idaho. Lakeland was able to overcome multiple attempts at a comeback by Kellogg, but unfortunately, their efforts proved to be too little and too late. Lakeland was led by a 20 point performance by Grant Roth. Roth knocked down 4 three-pointers and showed his ability to shoot from anywhere in the gym with ease. Roth also got a lot of help from Scotty Hocking who scored 14 points and scored in the paint and from deep as well. Kellogg was led by a strong 15 point performance by Riply Luna Riply Luna 6'3" | SF Kellogg | 2023 State ID who battled to get to the rim throughout the night, as well as 12 points from KJ Walker. Walker was able to drive to the hoop multiple times throughout the game where he either finished at the rim, or got fouled and knocked down his free throws.
Lakeside vs. Genesis Prep: Lakeside pulled off a close victory over Genesis Prep during a recent Scenic Idaho Conference battle that featured a variety of lead changes as well as some late-game heroics. Lakeside leveraged their talented roster in order to overcome Genesis Prep and they did a great job of making sure that they fought hard throughout the game. Lakeside was led by a really strong 28 point performance from Vander Brown Vander Brown 5'10" | PG Lakeside | 2023 State ID . Brown showed that he could score from anywhere on the court and led a relentless attack all night long on offense. Genesis Prep was led by 15 points from Caleb Schroeder from the paint and the free throw line, and Joey Specht added 13 points to round out double digit scorers for the game.
