I often say the 2022 class of players in Kansas is one of the most loaded classes of hoopers that have been around in this state since the site began coverage out here. The guard play from the senior class has been outstanding which is why we have a ton of new guards added to the rankings, here is our newly ranked guards inside of the top 110.
#17 Nahcs Wahwassuck Nahcs Wahwassuck 6'5" | CG Royal Valley | 2022 State KS , 6’5 PG, Royal Valley: After a brief stint with Link Academy in Missouri which saw him removed from our state rankings, Wahwassuck is back and rejoined the loaded senior class for 3A state title contenders Royal Valley. The talented point guard is starting to find a rhythm with his teammates after joining after the holiday break. Has broken the school’s assist record, a 1,000 point scorer, has racked up a ton of wins, and is poised to have a solid college basketball career.
#74 Sam Ungashick Sam Ungashick 6'0" | CG Blue Valley West | 2022 State KS , 6’1 PG, Blue Valley West: The leader of the backcourt for a 6A title contender in Blue Valley West. Ungashick is a quick, decisive, and hard nosed point guard who commands a ton of the offense and gets his guys into successful positions on the floor. Can score it as well in the painted area, gets to the foul line at a high clip and has a nice handle to get guys off balance on the attack. Has struggled from the 3 point line this season but has found other ways to get into gaps and get some looks off the bounce to still average a little over 16 points and 5 assists per game and is one of the leading assist makers in the KC area. Shoots it at 84% from the foul line as well.
#75 Kellen Marshall Kellen Marshall 6'0" | SG Council Grove | 2022 State KS , 6’ PG, Council Grove: Has been on a tear since the break in the season and was really solid in the first half. Currently averaging 19 points, 4 assists, 3 rebounds, and over a steal per game. Is really shifty on the handle, is a terrific three point shooter, and plays with tenacity on the defensive end. A real competitor from the point guard position and is helping lead a solid Council Grove team looking to surprise some people come post season time.
#89 Cooper Scheck Cooper Scheck 6'0" | CG Dodge City | 2022 State KS , 6’ G, Dodge City: A guard that plays with moxie, poise, and spirit for a Dodge City team that should not be slept on and is worthy of their ranking in the KBCA rankings. Is a terrific scorer of the basketball and gets his shots off in a variety of ways. Guys have to close out hard on him and he plays well off rip drives into finishes or pull ups, and has a great shot fake. Shooting over 55% from 3 this season and over 19 a game, Scheck is an absolute gamer for a really good Dodge City team.
#109 Bralen Thompson Bralen Thompson 6'2" | CG Hoisington | 2022 State KS , 6’ G, Hoisington (Pictured): One of the better rebounding guards to join the rankings this update at over 6 per game and he pairs up his ability to crash the glass hard with some excellent scoring prowess from the back court at 19 points per game. Has great instincts and hands on the defensive end of the floor, has a great IQ, kicks the ball ahead in transition, and is a sniper from the perimeter. Hoisington sits at 6-6 but with Thomson in the back court they are dangerous for anyone to play.
