High Potential Junior Combo Guards
In this article:
The regular season has a month left and at this point we have a pretty big sample size of games to judge teams off of. Here’s a look at some 2023 prospects who have shown they have big time potential as college prospects.
Meechie White Meechie White 6'3" | CG Male | 2023 State KY , Male – One of the best prospects in the city who gets overlooked because of the depth on Male’s roster. White is a two way guard who can lock down opposing guards and can score on the offensive end. Meechie is at his best in the open court but has improved in the half court and become a better shooter in the past year plus. Athletically, there aren’t many better combo guards in the city.
Hagan Harrison Hagan Harrison 6'1" | CG Madison Central | 2023 KY , Madison Central – Sidelined for the season by the KHSAA, Harrison will have a lot riding on the upcoming AAU season. Hagan has been a volume scoring combo guard and was the best player for Montgomery County for a couple of seasons before making a transfer this past summer. Harrison is a strong guard who is capable of bullying his way to the rim or making catch and shoot jumpers with consistency. If he locks in defensively, he has the athleticism to be a force on that end also.
Kyre Bishop Kyre Bishop 6'0" | PG Shelby County | 2023 NC , Shelby County – Bishop is the leading scorer and rebounder for the Rockets at 17 points and 7 rebounds per game. Kyre has a quick first step and the ability to get to the rim but his shooting shows that he doesn’t have a ton of confidence in his outside shot and struggles at the free throw line. Kyre has the ability to clamp opposing guards when he’s motivated to do so and excels when working in a zone press where he can be aggressive and shoot gaps. If Bishop will work on his jumper, he’ll be a scholarship level player in the near future.
Landen Hamilton Landen Hamilton 5'11" | CG Conner | 2023 State KY , Conner – Hamilton is one of the top scorers in the 9th region and has shown the ability to attack the rim with the best in Northern Kentucky. He needs to improve his three point shooting and overall shooting efficiency but he is effective playing both on and off the ball and gets downhill well when attacking the basket. Landen still needs to work to get stronger and finish through contact. Some added bulk should improve his efficiency scoring at the rim.
DeJohn Blunt DeJohn Blunt 6'4" | CG Great Crossing | 2023 MD , Bourbon County – Blunt has had a quiet Junior season after a solid 16u AAU season showed a lot of potential for the guard. DeJohn has shown he’s at his best when he’s slashing towards the bucket and creating looks for himself and teammates. When he’s locked in on the defensive end, Blunt can be a disruptive force and rebounds his position fairly well for his size. With a big summer coming up, DeJohn has a chance to impress with a strong 17u campaign.
