It was a great district tournament but at the end only 3 Treasure Coast teams came out victorious to take home the title which were: Morningside Academy, Martin County and Centennial. Below we breakdown some standout performances from the tournament:
2022 Ryan Davis Ryan Davis 6'4" | CG Martin County | 2022 State FL – Martin County – The Nova Southeastern commit showed why he has been one of the best players in the area the last 4 years for Martin County. Entering a tough environment on the road against the favorite Dwyer Ryan and his team battled all game long to pull off the win 49-48 in an epic battle. It was fitting that Ryan made the games final rebound while dropping to his knees and clutching the ball to secure a third straight district championship for Martin County. Ryan who had 13 points in the game was without one of his sidekicks Elijah Duval Elijah Duval 6'2" | SG Martin County | 2024 #118 Nation FL and showed why he is not only one of the best players to ever come out of this area but a strong leader on and off the court. Ryan is a selfless player always putting the team first and a player who goes hard on every possession. He has left a lasting impression on the program and has helped raise the bar for basketball in the area. Martin County will now move on to Regionals where they will face a tough Dillard team on February 17.
2022 Damon Leigh – Morningside Academy – DJ who has led the Eagles all season long scored 12 points while adding 7 assists and 9 rebounds to win the District championship against Atlantic Christian. This was a back and forth game all the way through as Atlantic had beaten the Eagles a few weeks back in an overtime thriller. Down the stretch DJ made a key steal with under 15 seconds left forcing Atlantic to foul and put DJ on the line for free throws. Like he has been all season DJ was clutch and made both free throws with under 2 seconds left leading his team to their first ever District title in school history. The Eagles will move on to Regionals with a home game against Miami Christian on February 17th.
2022 Roger “Fresh” Walters – Centennial High School – Fresh came up huge to lead his team to their first District title in over 20 years. Fresh was the leading scorer with 21 points hitting big three point shots down the stretch. Fresh and the team overcame a double digit deficit to defeat Fort Pierce Central 70-60 and will now move on to the Regionals against Forest Hill on February 17th. This team has been one of the better teams in the area all season long and are now 22-4.
2023 Joseph Lezeau – Centennial High School – Joseph has been an absolute beast all season long and was a huge part of his team winning a District title. Joseph had a monster game with 20 points and 13 rebounds in the final and was nearly impossible to stop. This young man continues to impress and I have a feeling he will make a hard run at player of the year his senior season.
