Indiana is full of great teams and talented players thus giving the fans incredible matchups every week. Join me, Kyler Staley, every Monday during the season as I preview the 3 Players, 3 Teams, and 3 Matchups to watch for that coming week. Are you ready? Let’s get started!
3 Players
Jahni Summers Jahni Summers 6'5" | SG Evansville Harrison | 2022 State IN – 6’5 2022 SG – Evansville Harrison: As I watched Harrison’s game at Evansville Reitz this past week, one question that stuck in my head the whole time…. how Summers’ has not be recruited more than what he has been? This guy is one of the most athletic guards in the entire 2022 class and knows how to score the ball at a high level. Plays above the rim and attacks the basket so well. Really does have the talent to play low major and any level below. Whoever ends up landing him is going to get a steal. He and Harrison will play Evansville Bosse (2/18) and Terre Haute North (2/19) this week.
Sean Paige Sean Paige 6'8" | C Anderson | 2022 State IN – 6’8 2022 PF – Anderson: This is another guy that I am little baffled by his lack of recruitment. Paige is a big and bruising big man that plays with such power and physicality. Plays so well with his back to the basket and goes up hard for rebounds on a consistent basis. And is also very agile for his size as well. Does hold a DII offer and few other small colleges has interest in him but real surprised he does not have more than what he has. He and Anderson play Richmond (2/15) and at Kokomo (2/18) this week.
Jordan Turner Jordan Turner 6'3" | PG Cardinal Ritter | 2022 State IN – 6’3 2022 PG – Cardinal Ritter: Turner is one of the most athletic, skilled, play making guards that are still on the board. He is a bigger guard with elite quickness and explosiveness and is so smart when playing on the ball. Also has an incredible vertical and easily one of the best guards that can play above the rim. Does have offers from Manchester and Bethune-Cookman. He and Ritter have Bishop Chatard (2/16), Covenant Christian (2/18), and Cascade (2/19) all this week.
3 Teams
North Central (Indianapolis) (4A): The Panthers of North Central have been a sneaky good 4A team all season. Currently top 10 in Class 4A with a 15-5 overall record and had 5 game winning streak before they lost to Pike this past Friday. As far as roster, they are led by 2023 SG Joey Brown Joey Brown 6'6" | SG North Central | 2023 State #280 Nation IN with guys that play very well off him like David Lloyd David Lloyd 6'4" | SF Indianapolis North Central | 2022 State IN , Davis Olson Davis Olson 6'0" | SG North Central | 2022 State IN , Elijah McCoy Elijah McCoy 6'1" | SG North Central | 2023 IN , and others. with Sectional 10 as loaded as it is, North Central could be a team that causes some disruptions in the brackets. This week they have two winnable games with a road game to Center Grove (2/18) and a home game vs Fort Wayne Carroll (2/19).
Brownstown (3A): Led by one of the top players in the 2024 class Jack Benter Jack Benter 6'4" | SG Brownstown Central | 2024 State #121 Nation IN , the Braves are one of the toughest Southern Indiana teams in 3A. At an outstanding 16-3 record, this Brownstown team has beaten squads like Seymour, Scottsburg, North Harrison, Loogootee, Greensburg, and other good teams. From looking at their Sectional group, I am expecting them to making it Regionals. This week they have an opportunity to get three really good wins with road games at Floyd Central (2/15) and Eastern Perkin (2/18) and a home game vs Providence (2/19).
Northeastern (2A): The Knights of Northeastern started off the season really rocky before winning their last 10 of 11 games. They currently sit just outside the top 10 but could make an argument of being a top 10 team in 2A. They are led by stud senior PF Raedhyn Foust Raedhyn Foust 6'8" | PF Northeastern | 2022 State IN with surrounding guys that just know how to win. This week provides a bit of a challenge with Cambridge City Lincoln (2/15) and at Winchester (2/18).
3 Matchups
Bedford North Lawrence (4A) at Mitchell (2A) – Feb 15, 7:30pm: Based on looking at the record of each team, you may be wondering why this game is one of my games to watch for. The reason being, is because of how bitter this rivalry is. Two schools that are about 20 min from each other, this is usually the most talked about game between both schools each year. Bedford has dominated the series with a record of 46-1 with 35 straight wins. Bedford is down talent wise than what they have been in the past years but still provide a solid 1-2 punch with guards Colten Leach and Colton Staggs Colton Staggs 6'1" | PG Bedford North Lawrence | 2023 IN . If Mitchell is going to get the big upset here, guard Nick Mundy Nick Mundy 6'0" | PG Mitchell | 2022 IN will need to play his best game yet this season. With home court advantage and one of the better Mitchell teams we have seen in previous years, this could be the year the Bluejackets get it done.
Fishers (4A) at Zionsville (4A) – Feb 18th, 7:30pm: This is going to be a game between 2 high-powered 4A teams in the Indy area with the 18-2 Fishers Tigers traveling to the 12-5 Zionsville Eagles. After starting off as one of the hottest teams in the state, Zionsville has struggled as of late with just a 2-3 record in their last 5 games. On the other hand, Fishers has arguably been playing their best stretch of basketball having won their last 6 games. This is also going to be a battle of 2 of the top guard prospects in the state between freshman Jalen Haralson Jalen Haralson 6'7" | PG La Lumiere | 2025 #8 Nation IN and junior Logan Imes Logan Imes 6'4" | PG Zionsville | 2023 State #202 Nation IN . With this being at Zionsville, I like to Eagles to get it done here.
Argos (1A) at Triton (1A) – Feb 17th, 7:30pm: This is about as big as it gets with 1A basketball between two top 15 teams in that class. Both teams nearly have an identical roster build as they are led by a stud player surrounded by a good supporting cast with Argos being led by 2023 SF J.J. Morris J.J. Morris 6'6" | SF Argos | 2023 State IN and Triton having 2022 PG Ashton Oviedo Ashton Oviedo 5'10" | PG Triton | 2022 IN . One important stat that jumps out here are that both teams are a part of the Sectional 50 and both are undefeated vs Sectional teams. Expecting this to be a battle with Triton barley squeaking by with the win.
