Week 9 Rankings Update
In this article:
There weren’t many upsets around the state this past week, but there were enough interesting results to lead to some shakeup across all four classes. We detail some of the key movement in each class below.
In Class 1A, Grand View Christian (17-0) continues to roll over teams, adding impressive wins over 3A Atlantic and a very good 2A Roland-Story team this past week. The Thunder are winning games by an average of nearly 40 points a game. They are followed by AHSTW (14-0), St. Mary’s, Remsen (15-0), North Linn (14-1), and Lake Mills (15-0). Lake Mills moves up a pair of spots to #5 this week following a loss by New London (11-1), who fell to #10. Aplington-Parkersburg (12-1) moves up to #1 in Class 2A this week following Central Lyon’s (13-1) loss to Boyden-Hull (13-1). The Falcons are averaging a state-best 87.0 points a game behind a quartet of double-figure scorers. Western Christian (13-1) moves up to #2, followed by Boyden-Hull, Central Lyon, and Pella Christian (10-3). Undefeated River Valley Conference powers Monticello (14-0) and Mid-Prairie (14-0) check in at #6 and #7, respectively.
The most shakeup comes in Class 3A, where Dallas Center-Grimes (10-2) takes over the top spot this week. The Mustangs survived a scare from Carroll on Saturday afternoon, beating the Tigers 53-50 in overtime. Fort Madison (12-0) moves up to #2 from #5, and Harlan (11-1), Decorah (12-1), and Washington (13-1) round out the top five. Pella (10-4) lost back-to-back games last week and falls from #1 to #6. Marion (11-3) re-joins the rankings at #8 after being out for a month or so.
Ames (9-1) won the big showdown matchup against #2 Waukee Northwest (11-2) on Friday night, cementing their spot at the top of the Class 4A rankings. Northwest doesn’t fall after a really good game. Pleasant Valley (12-0) moves up a spot to #3, and Ankeny (10-2) and Kennedy (10-2) round out the top five. The biggest movement in 4A came from Council Bluffs Lincoln (10-2), who fall from #3 to #9 following the devastating news of Josh Dix Josh Dix 6'5" | SG Council Bluffs Lincoln | 2022 State #149 Nation IA ’s broken leg.
