Continue ReadingIn this week’s installment of “7 Prospects Who Impressed” you will notice that defense once again took a backseat as players from southeastern Pennsylvania produced amazing scoring performances. Big numbers were posted, more school scoring records fell, and college coaches had to be impressed by what they saw.
Below is a quick review of seven SEPA prospects we saw in-person or via online streams in last week who impressed us with their extraordinary level of play.
Will Anozie Will Anozie 6'2" | CG Valley Forge MA | 2022 State PA – 6’1’’ / Senior / Valley Forge MA / East Coast Power / Combo Guard: This Houston, Texas native can light up the score board with the best players in the southeastern Pennsylvania. Last week Anozie notched 43 points (6 threes; 17-32 FGAs) to go along with 6 rebounds and 6 dimes vs. MaST Charter. During that 40-spot he also cracked 1,000-point mark for his career. Anozie then netted 23 points (3 triples) against Church Farm School. Anozie’s most recent 40+-point effort was his fifth 40-point game of the year. He has also posted two 50-point performances this season.
Cole Hargrove Cole Hargrove 6'8" | SF Methacton | 2022 State PA – 6’8” / Senior / Methacton / K-Low Elite / Small Forward: Back in September and October of 2021, the athletic and talented Hargrove tore up the Comp Edge Fall League. So, it should not be a surprise that he is having a tremendous high school season. He is unstoppable in the mid-range as well as in close. Additionally, Hargrove excels on the offensive glass. This past week Hargrove racked up 27 points and 20 rebounds in a senior night win over Owen J Roberts. After his ridiculous double-double, Hargrove put up 13 points in limited run during a blowout win over Boyertown. He finished the week with another double-double (10 and 10) and another victory. Hargrove’s outstanding play is a major reason Methacton is now 17-0 on the season.
Josiah Jordan – 5’11” / Senior / Berks Catholic / Reading KTB / Combo Guard: Jordan is an ultra-quick guard with a filthy dribble drive game. That combination allows Jordan to finish at the rim frequently. Jordan’s dribble-drive skills can also produce stop and pop mid-range jumpers or floaters in the lane. This past week Jordan recorded 25 points and 8 rebounds in a win over Muhlenberg. Then he posted a career high 30 points in a win over York Catholic. One other scouting note on Jordan – his serious case of hops will surprise people.
Demetrius Lilley Demetrius Lilley 6'8" | PF Lower Merion | 2022 State PA – 6’9” / Senior / Lower Merion / Philly Pride National / Center: This Penn State commit looks significantly more fit this season as he continues to dominate foes on the interior. Lilley has added a nice spin dribble and draining the occasional 3-pointer to his bag of tricks. He began last week by netting 31 in a victory against William Allen. In that contest Lilley surpassed the 1,000-points for his career. Lilley followed that performance with a 25 points and 21 rebounds double-double (3 blocks as well) in a win over the Haverford.
Lucas Orchard Lucas Orchard 6'4" | SF Devon Prep | 2023 State PA – 6’4’’ / Junior / Devon Prep / SJ Hoops Elite-Grey / Wing: During the summer 2021 grassroots circuit we witnessed signs that Orchard had really elevated his scoring abilities. The 2021-22 high school season has provided further evidence of that fact. This versatile and high IQ wing player has carried the scoring load for Devon Prep on several nights. Check out Orchard’s last four stat lines — 18 points (2 threes) and 8 steals; 16 points, 8 assists and 6 rebounds; 24 points (4/8 threes), 5 assists and 3 rebounds; 17 points (2/3 on triples) and 4 rebounds. Orchard is the stat sheet stuffer type of player college coaches love.
Connor Shanahan – 5’11” / Junior / Downingtown East / Gibbs Elite / Shooting Guard: Back in December of 2021 Shanahan was an All-Tournament selection at the Marple Newtown Holiday Tournament and his elevated level of play has continued here in 2022. Shanahan can score at all 3 levels but is especially effective off the dribble. He can use the bounce to create for himself or others. In his last three games Shanahan has been unstoppable. First, he tied the school single game scoring record with 40 points (2 threes) in win over Oxford. Then his phenomenal week continued with 29 points vs WC Henderson and 18 points vs Coatesville. If you do the math, that is an average of 29 ppg. over that three-game stretch.
Zion Stanford Zion Stanford 6'5" | SF West Catholic | 2023 State PA – 6’4’’ / Senior / West Catholic / K-Low Elite / Wing: Stanford is a long, versatile and athletic prospect who blew up during the July 2021 grassroots circuit. In the half-court Stanford’s ability to play multiple positions, knock home threes and create off the dribble makes him an extremely enticing prospect. Stanford excels in transition as well where he can score or distribute. Stanford began his latest outstanding five game run with 31 points and 6 rebounds against St. Joe’s Prep. Next Stanford rang up 16 points and 6 rebounds vs. Archbishop Carroll. He then posted 12 points and 4 rebounds against Roman Catholic. That effort was followed by 19 points; 6 rebounds and 6 assists vs. Neumann Goretti. Stanford finished last week by recording 14 points, 6 assists and 3 steals in a contest with O’Hara. That is an average of 18.4 ppg. for Stanford over that five-game span. West Catholic was 4-1 in those games.
