So, this past week (or so) we were fortunate to witness numerous contests that featured noteworthy college basketball prospects.
Below is a quick review of six prospects we saw in-person or via online streams in last week who impressed us with their extraordinary level of play.
Quin Berger Quin Berger 6'2" | CG Westtown School | 2022 State PA – 6’2” / Senior / Westtown School / NJ Shoreshots / Combo Guard: Even with several nationally ranked players in the starting lineup, Berger has really come into his own this season. His high IQ, ability to score at all three levels and continuous off ball movement will help Berger succeed at the next level. This past week he simply killed it on the high school scene beginning with a 25 point, 5 rebounds and 4 dimes performance in win over Shipley. He scored Westtown’s first 16 points in that contest. Then Berger posted 16 points and 5 rebounds in win over Germantown Friends as well as 14 points vs. Vertical Academy. He ended the week with 26 points (10/20 FGAs) vs. Gil St. Bernard’s.
Jacob Beccles Jacob Beccles 6'3" | CG Constitution | 2022 State PA – 6’3” / Junior / Constitution / Team Durant / Point Guard: Everyone knows Beccles (2nd Team 2A All-State in 2020-21) can score the rock, but this season he has taken his scoring to yet another level. He has already posted games of 45 and 32 points and this scoring lead guard shows zero signs of letting up. He recorded 32 points, 8 rebounds and 5 steals against John Bartram. During that game Beccles also eclipsed the 1,000-point mark for his career. He followed up that astonishing performance with 29 points, 6 rebounds and 5 steals vs Sankofa Freedom Academy. He ended the week by scoring 28 points in a win over National Christian Academy (MD). Beccles recently added an offer from Virginia Tech to his pile of recruitment letters.
Xzayvier Brown Xzayvier Brown 6'1" | PG Roman Catholic | 2023 State #233 Nation PA – 6’2” / Junior / Roman Catholic / K-Low Elite / Point Guard: During summer 2021, this extremely skilled point guard took his game to a new level and became one of the most sought after 2023s in the region. This high school season Brown has continued to play like a major DI prospect. He recently missed a string of games, but this past week he returned to the RC lineup with a bang. He began an impressive stretch of play with 11 points, 5 rebounds, 6 assists, 4 steals in a tough loss to Archbishop Wood. Then Brown helped get the Cahilites back on the winning track with 23 points, 10 rebounds, 5 assists and 9 steals in a lopsided win over PCL foe Archbishop Ryan.
Cole Hargrove Cole Hargrove 6'8" | SF Methacton | 2022 State PA – 6’8” / Senior / Methacton / K-Low Elite / Power Forward: Hargrove has always been a superb interior scoring threat with solid footwork and the length to finish over opposing defenders. However, the baseline and mid-range jumpers he is displaying this season have expanded his scoring repertoire. Basically, Hargrove has become unstoppable. All those scoring tricks helped produce 17 points (scored 12 in the 2nd half) in a win over Phoenixville as well as 18 points in victory vs. Perkiomen Valley. Hargrove’s improved offensive skills are a big reason Methacton has jumped out a 12-0 start this season.
Demetrius Lilley Demetrius Lilley 6'8" | PF Lower Merion | 2022 State PA – 6’10” / Senior / Lower Merion / Philly Pride National / Center: After a lengthy Covid pause, Lower Merion returned to action this week to face a ridiculously difficult schedule. Lilley (Penn State), who has slimmed down and is much improved off the dribble this season, stepped up and helped the Aces run the table (4-0). The big fella posted games of 24 and 20 points during Central League wins. Lilley followed those two games with a 16 points and 10 rebounds double-double in a victory over Friends Central. However, he saved his best for last. Against Reading, the defending 6A state champions, Lilley threw up 27 points in a huge upset win for LM. It should also be noted that highly recruited junior guard Sam Brown Sam Brown 6'3" | CG Lower Merion | 2023 State PA exited the Reading game in the opening minutes with an injury. So, Lilley and the Aces role players worked together to pull off this stunning victory.
Joshua Parks Joshua Parks 6'0" | CG Delaware County Christian School | 2022 State PA – 6’0” / Senior / Delaware County Christian / Hoops 4 Life / Point Guard: As DCC’s No. 1 option this season, Parks has altered his style of play to become more of a scoring floor general. The results have been excellent, as Parks (1st Team All BAL in 2020-21) is having his best season in an already decorated high school career. Most recently, Parks drilled 5 threes as he went off for 34 points in a win over MaST Charter.
