Antwone Gonzalez 2022 Guard 6’2 Shoemaker High School
Antwone is an impressive athlete with an ability to dominate at all three levels. He is an aggressive finisher in the paint and is very quick when getting downhill. His ability to simply explode toward the rim makes him an elite offensive weapon when you pair his ability to punish you from the outside. I was most impressed with his ability to to score off the dribble as he displayed some very impressive difficult shot making. He scored at an impressive clip when changing his shot angles and fading away from defenders from the mid-range and beyond the arc. He has the ability to score in nearly every spot on the floor, he will become an elite weapon as he continues to learn when to get to those spots. I got a chance to watch Gonzalez early on this season during the 2021 San Antonio Spurs High School Showcase in which he Gonzalez was voted to the All Showcase Team, led his team to a quarter finals appearance and led the entire tournament in scoring per game.
Antwan Taylor Antwan Taylor 6'4" | SG Harker Heights | 2022 State TX 6’5 2022 Harker Heights High School
Antwan is a lanky combo guard who thrives in creating offense for his teammates, and easy looks for himself. He possesses crazy athleticism which allows him to throw down dunks and lobs with ease. His ability to finish at the rim for the guard position is absolutely incredible. He is aggressive and willing to take on any contact, or finish over anyone. Taylor has a real nose for the ball and has a knack for timing up tip dunks. Most of his highlights this year have been him flying in on the weak side and throwing down a tip dunk off of his teammates miss. He has a soft floater/ runner he can get to in the lane which is very effective as he has put so much fear into the defenses’ hearts. I would like to see more consistency with his ability to punish his defender in the midrange, and beyond the arc. As he works to become more effective at scoring outside, he will continue to develop into a prospect who has a real chance of playing high level basketball at the next level.
Kai Chester 2022 5’11 Desoto High School
Kai is one of the best undersized guards I have seen play in a long time. His ability to score at all three level was impressive, however his on-court leadership, energy and drive is what really separates him from other point guards. He is vocal on both ends of the floor and has a calming presence when he has the ball in his hands. He has the ability to make every pass on the floor in both the half court and full court, and routinely made crisp cross court passes that set up his teammates for easy looks. He has the ability to score off the bounce at a very high level, especially beyond the arc. He seems to explode vertically and releases it at a high point which allows him to offset his high difference.
Randy Woolf Jr 2022 6’3 La Vega High School
Randy is a very intelligent player who thrives at doing all of the little things necessary to help his team win. He is La Vega’s main offensive weapon, and is also the team’s on and off the court leader. It was very evident by how vocal and engaged he was with his teammates, Woolf has the respect and attention of all of his teammates. Whether he is calling out defensive rotations or directing traffic with a live dribble, Woolf is engaged at all times. For La Vega, he is often tasked with playing small ball center and does a dang good job of protecting the rim, as well as sliding over to draw charges. In the game I saw him in, he drew three charges and had two jaw dropping blocks.
On offense he is very smart at using all of his steps to attack the basket. He has great footwork which allows him to euro step defenders and finish consistently in the paint. From range, he is a consistent shooter when given time to set his feet and square up. Woolf is a complete three level player who truly has to do it all for his team. Whether he is creating by pushing the fast break or making the right outlet passes from a rebound, he always seems to positively affect the game with his ability to move the ball and find the open teammate. I was also very impressed with his ability to rebound on both ends of the floor, on offense he came up with multiple extra opportunities for his team, and on defense, his ability to rebound the ball and turn it into fast paced offense was very impressive.
