Scanlan was pitted against the extremely talented St Francis Prep squad. St Joseph by the Sea, who not only has to deal with the teams in their own league scheduled some of the best public school teams on Long Island. They came away with a impressive victory over a Baldwin program that is always in the the state championship picture and will be again this year. Here are players from CHSAA that stood out.
Carlos Urena Carlos Urena 5'10" | PG Mcclancy | 2024 State NY . 5”10. 2024. McClancy
Has been given a lot of responsibility in running the club. He was not at the Holy Trinity game and that hurt them. He is a quick guard who can slash to the rim. Gets into the lane.
Jaiden Gaston 5”11. 2024. McClancy
McClancy might take a couple of lumps this season but their young guards will learn on the job and improvement over the next few years will be well worth it. Jaiden had to do a lot of the handling and scoring against the Titans. He showed poise and confidence. Extremely quick and crafty. He can score many ways. Has a nice pull up off the baseline. Gets good lift on his jumper. An exciting skilled player to watch.
Jaylen Logue 6”6 2023 Scanlan
I was very impressed with the big man. Uses his body to seal his man in the post. Also displayed a couple of quick old school turn around jumpers in the paint. Extremely active on both ends of the court. Outstanding rebounder and a presence in the paint.
Kendall Arcuri 6”3 2022 St Joseph by the Sea
Excellent court vision. A nose for the ball. Good instincts. A workhorse on both ends. Outstanding rebounder by using his ability to get up, along with good positioning. A lefty who can handle the ball. Scores at all three levels. Most impressed with his mid range game.
Danny Marinaccio 6”0 2022 St Joseph by the Sea
Really good on the ball defender. Uses his body defending or handling the ball. Has good court vision. Outstanding shooter on the catch or coming off screens. Has deep range.
Jayden James Jayden James 6'3" | SG Molloy | 2023 State NY 6”2 2023 St Joseph by the Sea
Christian was on our super seventy players in the CHSAA at the start of the season. A lot of questions I received were, who is he? Well I think everyone knows him, now. Has tremendous leadership qualities. A tough guard who competes on every possession. Very athletic. Extremely smooth and confident with the ball. He was hounded by a very good and aggressive defensive Baldwin team but never flinched. A point guard skill set who can score the ball. Showed the drive and kick or finish game. Gets on the ground for loose balls.
I have decided to put these two players together in this report. They play off of each other so well. There were numerous times that they kept possessions alive with offensive tips or rebounds. They controlled the defensive boards as well. Dorian is an extremely active player in the post on both ends. Anthony is more of an offensive threat shooting the ball from the foul line and in, jumper. These two players will cause headaches for opposing coaches for the way they go after the ball. On this team with their shooters getting extra possessions will make the difference to winning games.
