One of my favorite events of the year, the CHC is in remembrance of Chance Harmon, who at 8 years old passed away from a rare cancer and this event honors him while also raising money for child cancer research.
The event brings the whole town out as well as most of western VA, and is a really special day of basketball run by some very good people. There were tons of talented players and great basketball throughout the day, and it was another successful year to help “Give Others a Chance.”
Here’s a look at part three of the 2022 standouts from the event.
Maliq Brown Maliq Brown 6'8" | PF Blue Ridge | 2022 State #123 Nation VA | 6’8” PF | Blue Ridge
While Blue Ridge struggled in their game against Centerville, the Syracuse commit came to play on both ends of the floor and brought the energy he’s known for. He’s a very unique prospect as he’s built to be a power forward but is mobile and moves his feet like a wing, he made athletic plays at the rim on both ends and he competed on both ends of the floor regardless of the score. He finished with 13 points and 4 rebounds in the loss.
Devin Walker | 6’0” PG | Blue Ridge
We featured Walker as one of the top available guards in the state earlier this week, and he showed why as he went up against a backcourt that featured multiple high major and division one recruits and not only held his own but played very well. He’s a crafty guard who has good burst and changes speeds and directions well, he can knock down shots from multiple levels and he has a chip to him that’s easy to like. He finished with 15 points on 6-for-10 shooting from the field and pitched in 5 assists as well.
Nate Wesley | 6’3” F | Radford
Wesley is the classic SWVA forward, as he is a little undersized for his position but he’s versatile and able to do a little bit of everything to help his team. He’s a walking mismatch as he’s strong and solid like a four man, but he can take you out on the perimeter too where he can handle the rock and make plays for himself and others and finds ways to impact the game positively. He finished with 10 points and 5 rebounds in their loss to Lord Botetourt.
Tom House Tom House 6'5" | SF Centerville | 2022 State OH | 6’6” WF | Centerville
I had yet to see the Florida State commit that came in as somewhat of an enigma to scouts in this area, but he quickly showed why he’s heading to the ACC as he’s an absolute sniper with prototypical size. While he struggled to get it going early he did start to make some shots, and he showed great footwork and good elevation on his jumper as well as a quick release and deep range. He finished with 13 points and was no slouch on the defensive end too.
Rich Rolf Rich Rolf 6'6" | PF Centerville | 2022 State OH | 6’7” PF | Centerville
Rolf has to be one of the best available forwards in the Midwest, and he showed why as he did a little bit of everything and showed great versatility for Centerville in their win over Blue Ridge. The 6’7” forward is a guy who can handle it in transition and runs the floor hard without the ball, he can stick it from deep consistently and he is a good finisher and can guard multiple positions. He finished with 14 points and 5 rebounds in the win.
Jackson Holt Jackson Holt 6'4" | SG Moravian Prep | 2022 State NC | 6’3” WG | Moravian Prep
Holt is a very intriguing wing who can do what a lot of teams need in a player at the collegiate level now, which is shoot the basketball at a high clip. He knows his game and plays to his strengths as he moves well off the basketball, he has good form and deep range off the catch and is always looking for his shot. He finished with 9 points going 3-for-7 from deep in their win.
